Hi Sojo!

Welcome.

You know what might be easiest for you is to just cook the vegetables you like

and add savory spices.

Cook lots of wild rice or even white rice...heck mix it.

Veggies and rice are sooo good.

Same with noodles!

You can use leftovers for a yummo soup or hash!

You don't really ever have to use tofu (I don't) But I do like Boca stuff... the

Boca corn dogs are super yummy!

Good luck!

Hello. :) Good for you, that's what switched me over too. Plus it's healthier,

of course. The recipe files... I still haven't gone through them all. I'm on two

vegetarian lists and there are so many things to try!

what do I say about myself. I'm sure you've heard all this

many times before... but it's new to me. (that and I don't know any

vegetarians)

Hi, my name is Sojo. I have tried to be a vegetarian (lacto-ovo) a

few times over then years and it never seemed to work. Probably

because I was doing it for the wrong reasons. I had been seriously

thinking more about it over the past month when about two weeks ago

I sat there and looked at my cat Spike. I thought about his

intelligence, his attitude, his playfulness and the rare times when

he just wants to be loved. I realized that I would never harm him,

he's a part of me.

It sorta stuck to me then, about the cute little cows and pigs and

little yellow chicks. I could never kill them, but apparently I

could eat them. I think because we don't see a head or anything

gross with it in a supermarket we don't associate the sadness of it

all with it. We had had chicken salad that night and I looked to my

cat and I felt like throwing up.

It'll be two weeks on Friday and I think my family's in shock that

I'm still with it. Oddly enough, I don't see it as a hard thing at

all.

I am here because I love to cook, I love to eat, and I have never

eaten tofu (soy makes me a little ill). The more recipes I can find

(and share) that make the vegetarian way of life a pleasure then I'm

happy.

So... any hints, tricks or tips for the newbie? (I glanced at the

files, it's going to take me a while to go through them so I thought

I'd say hi first.)

Hey Sojo good for you!!! Welcome to the group.

It really isn't that hard to be veg. You basically just eat all the fruits,

veggies and grains that you have always eaten and maybe now is a good time to

try new veggies you never had before.

Because you just started you have a lot of stores in your body of the

nutrients you consumed when you were eating meat. It won't be until your body

uses all that fuel that you will start to crave the things you used to eat.

You'll crave them not because you " loved them oh so much " but rather because

they contained vitamins, minerals, enzymes and nutrients that your body needs

and you were used to getting those things from that diet. So thats when you need

to learn how to compensate- so for example if all of a sudden you start to crave

a juicy steak or a hamburger- thats just your body telling you it needs protein

and iron- so if you eat something vegetarian that has lots of protein and iron

then the meat craving goes away. Eventually your body will crave the new

vegetarian food over the old carniverous food. Its just a matter of time for

reprogramming your body and brain to make new associations between food and the

purpose it serves. Stick with it and you'll do great!!!!!
