Guest guest
Greetings! It's been a while since I checked in (I'm not the real talkative type :-) But have been driven by a craving for sushi lately to come out of hiding :-) Anyway, my Wife and Kids enjoyed sushi for a long time, but in the past it always had some form of meat in it, usually fish or that 'fake crab made from fish and fish byproducts' kind of stuff. Soo... switching over to veggie, the blending of flavors in my head needs to be relearned. So I wanted to ask what your favorite ingredients and mixes of ingredients are for making sushi? (anything but Sesame seeds or oil) Any favorite marinades for tofu/fried tofu? Veggie tempura? For use in sushi or otherwise. Would really appreciate any help y'all can give. I didn't used to like sushi, but as my tastes have changed I've really come to love the stuff, and find myself craving it all the time (thank goodness for Zojirushi :-) Take Care all! Guest guest
I also haven't been here for ages - but couldn't resist putting in a word here - if you make pickles, that adds wonderful zap to sushi rolls. The other great zapper is umeboshi - are you familiar with that? You'll find it in the macrobiotic secion of your health food store, get the paste rather than the whole ume plum, as the paste is easier to work with (tho whole plums are healthier) - you only need a very little, maybe 1/4 tsp (I never measured) - just smeared a line along same place where I put my vegetables - usually thin carrot sticks very briefly boiled, thin cucumber sticks, and green onions. Enjoy - I love sushi!!!! Great to see the site is still going strong as ever - but afraid too many foods that aren't included in the way I eat. If anyone is interested in macrobiotics, please do post me off site, as I may not be reading again for a while. Lovely autumn to those in that part of the world. Guest guest
My favorite sushi roll has a tempura slice of sweet potato with some other fresh veggies, rolled up and topped with a sliver of lemon and a dab of this spicy mayo... it is so good. I also enjoy a cashew broccoli roll and some plain avocado rolls. Pickled radish is great in those rolls too. Anything goes with me so long as it is veggie. ~ PT ~ When is someone able to witness to the souls of others? When she is able to witness her own soul first. When is someone able to correct others? Guest guest
In the files is my reipe for Inari-zushi; that is sushi rice (Yes, sushi means vinigered rice, not raw fish) stuffed in tofu pouches. Jim So I wanted to ask what your favorite ingredients and > > mixes of ingredients are for making sushi? (anything but Sesame seeds > > or oil) Any favorite marinades for tofu/fried tofu?
