Wow. Guess this means we won't see you on here possibly? That would be sad.

I hope this new page in your life works out well for you. Sounds like a lot of

work. Solar panels are an interesting alternative to electricity. The one that

my dad installed in our house, when I was young, never did do much for helping

with cutting down our cost. Today they probably have much better ways of doing

solar panels so that it will operate more things in your home. Let us know how

it goes. I'm sure you'll have some interesting things happening. BTW will

you have animals and is this in the dessert part of CA?

Good luck,

Judy

In 2 weeks I'm moving to my land in Central California... it's in the middle

of a ranch, no power. I have springs, so I'll work on developing one of those

first. Eventually I'll add some solar panels, but not enough to have a lot of

electrical appliances. For the next 2 years I'll be on and off the land, working

to pay it off, then I'll be there for good, building my house and growing my

food! Can't wait! Kathy

>Tahini is tougher than nut butters! I leave the nut butters (and Tahini)

upside down more than a few days. A week is better... and for Tahini about a

month. It's still not fun, but you can get a few good swipes in before the oil

is in danger of overflowing the top! Also, the almond butter is better than the

pb. I won't have a lot of electricity (off gird) where I am moving, so I'm going

to have to find a hand nut grinding method... maybe Lehman's... Kathy

I won't be THAT far from civilization! There's a coffee shop in town where I

can go to get online... won't be everyday, but I'll be around!

The area is dry but not desert. It's in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas,

there are oaks and cedars and bull pine on the land. I hope to raise a few

sheep (milk and wool), goats (milk), and chickens (eggs)... I'm ovo-lacto,

obviously! I also will use the manure for fertilizer.

To make the solar panels most useful I will be setting up deep cell batteries

that the power will come from and the panel(s) will recharge. There is a lot of

sunshine there, and I have a good southern exposure to place them. There is a

definite rainy season in the winter, so I may run low on power then, which is

one of the reasons I don't want many electrical appliances! I've been in New

England for the last 2 1/2 years and have been collecting antique non-electric

kitchen tools... don't have everything I need but almost! I'm thinking that a

mill might be the ticket for making nut butters... I'm going to have to see if

there is one with a nut butter option...

Thanks for the good wishes! Kathy
