Guest guest
Now I have to go home and look at my toothpaste!! I'm hoping Tom's of Maine would not use that type of ingredient (gelatin) Sam Other common items with gelatin are toothpaste, ice cream, most vitamins, jellies and jams Meg
Guest guest
you dont have to go home, I have some Tom's toothpaste right here... calcium carbonate, water, glycerin, xylitol, sodium lauryl sulfate, spearmint leaf oil, eppermint oils, carrageenan Also, I think Tom's has the ingredients of everything they makeon their website, but since they were bought out they may have changed. They have a big write up on their website about why they use SLS, so I suppose they are one of the more honest companies out there. Carrageenan is one of those plant based things they can use instead of gelatin, agar is another. Meg On 6/22/06, Samantha Lea <saml wrote: > > Now I have to go home and look at my toothpaste!! Guest guest
you dont have to go home, I have some Tom's toothpaste right here... Hey heads up here on Tom's Of Maines toothpaste, it is sometimes carried at Big Lots as well as the deodorant, I have a whole bunch here that I stocked up on when Big lots had them. Susie or Susan Some Americans need hyphens in their names, because only part of them has come over; but when the whole man has come over, heart and thought and all, the hyphen drops of its own weight out of his name. ~Woodrow Wilson
Guest guest
Isn't glycerin an animal based ingredient? Or it can be plant or animal? Thanks for looking up the Toms. Guest guest
yes and no. Glycerin naturally occurs in both animal fats and plant fats. What you see as glycerin today is usually a sugar alcohol and is often used to sweeten diabetic sweets. It's also known as glycerol and glycerine. There is food grade and cosmetic grade, both made form plants. In the 19th and early 20th century glycerin was derived solely from animal fats. You can still get this type of glycerin mostly for soap and candle making, but it's not as easy to find as the plant based. Guest guest
So if you use a product that says glycerin in the ingredients how do you find out? Probably call the company? The soap I use says it is a plant based glycerin but my lotion does not. Although I think St. Ives would use plant based. But then again I get in a lot of trouble assuming things. Thanks for all the info - now I just have to remember it. Sam yes and no. Glycerin naturally occurs in both animal fats and plant fats. Guest guest
call the manufacturer and hope they will tell you and not consider it proprietary?? Sorry, I don't know how else to tell.
