I posted this originally as a reply to subprong's message about

whole foods segment on 60 minutes, but it was returned because it

says I'm bouncing yet again---through no fault of my own!!!!LOL

Seriously, I do wish the juno and glitches would get worked

out. Paula

Hi--I did see the Whole Foods Story on 60 minutes. My hubby called

me in from all the riveting stuff on the computer to see

it.....lol!!!! I agree with everything you say. If you find

yourself in the position of being a huge success story, what an

opportunity to do it in a pro-active and conscientious manner! It

seemed from the 60 minutes coverage that the founder and CEO really

is a pretty good guy that wants to use his commercial authority to

make a positive impact on a lot of things. And I think it might

also have a domino effect on other giants who are not so

altruistically inclined, just because it's good business to

be " green " . Let's hope!

Did anyone see the segment about the Whole Foods chain this past

weekend (sunday)? Dan Rather interviewed the founder of the chain

and I

found

it very interesting.

One funny bit was that some folks nickname Whole Foods,

" Whole Paycheck " because of their prices. LOL. This is true! :)

Anyway it was a cool segment that mainly brushed the idea of the

Whole

Foods movement from start up to today and the identity issues it has

to deal with in balancing between its tradition of giving back to the

community (charity, money, movement and buying local produce) and the

corportation types of tags that it has encountered as of late.

I thought it was a cool story...not to mention, the huge store that

they visited. The CEO seemed like a genuine and good guy. I like his

approach to the whole thing. He does what he feels is right and yet

doesn't

pass any judgement onto those that don't agree with his approach and

decisions.

It was neat to see one lady picking 12 heads of lettuce from her

small

organic farm and taking them to the Whole Foods store that purchased

them

from her and stocking them on the produce table.

Here is the story online for those interested..

Well stated, Paula!

Granted it takes money to grow sometimes but at least their dollar is

expanding out and abroad everywhere instead of directly up to the suits.

Great community programs to boot.

Interesting that he started out with one store and mentioned that some

thought he was selling out by opening a second store. I thought that was

funny. I guess he was/is a modern hippie. Seemed like a cool guy to me.
