Guest guest
I lived out on Andrew's for three years. That was a protected area as you know so at least I felt safe. But the resources out there were incredible and all of the free museums were just fabulous (the Smithsonians). With all of the real history out in the area it was easy to homeschool my daughter and the addition to my education was superb too. Yes, the traffic was horrible, and the games that evolved in driving, but it was an experience I am glad I didn't miss. Which area do you live in? I was rarely outside...went from air conditioned home, to air conditioned car to air conditioned mall. Everything was air conditioned. The malls were replacements for parks. They were safer and cooler. What did surprise me though was how people packed in them Friday nights...not to shop, but to have dinner since the food courts gave a variety of foods so that each member of the family could eat as they chose. Drive by shootings, home break-ins even when you were home, drugs, car jackings all curtailed ones activities though. And Anacostia which was where the kids from the base were bussed to forced a HUGE number of people to homeschool. Of course I moved back to the West Coast in 1994 so things may have changed dramatically. I have been out there a number of times since and the traffic on the belt line had really escalated, but it has here too.linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it.
