Guest guest
Yeah, those pretzels sold in the street vendor's carts are more bagel-chewie. But to me a pretzel can be soft, chewie, or crispity-crunchy and it is more about the shape... though i do enjoy those long crunchy pretzel sticks now and then. i have another breadstick recipe that i have made into pretzels for the family that called for thawed out frozen bread dough. Those came out more like the cart vendor version of chewy pretzels, but i didn't boil them first [recipe reposted below] Parmesan Breadsticks 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1 1/2 tsp dried Italian seasoning 1 loaf (1 pound) frozen white bread dough, thawed 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted Warm pizza sauce, optional Combine cheese and Italian seasoning in a shallow bowl; set aside. Divide dough into 32 sections; roll each into a 5 inch long rope. Twist two pieces together. [here is where i shaped them into pretzels instead] Moisten ends with water and pinch to seal. Dip in butter, then roll in cheese mixture. [i skipped the cheese mixture part once and used coarse salt, but another time i did the cheese mixture and everyone loved it]. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-14 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with pizza sauce for dipping if desired. Yield: 16 servings ~ pt ~ P.S. You're a blogger now? Cool! Guest guest
The first time I ever saw those pretzels was when I moved to Philadelphia back in the late 80's and they were sold on every street corner...they would run out to your car and sell you one. They were really unusual to me, but I grew to appreciate them with a lot of mustard. Now I like the ones that are in the malls with the sugar and such, but being vegan can't eat them anymore as they are coasted in butter first of all and heaven only knows what is in them. Philly also had people who would run up to your car while you were at a light and start washing your windows expecting a payment without asking you. Got so I kept my windshield down so I could holler " NO thank you. " linda " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll > Yeah, those pretzels sold in the street vendor's carts are > more bagel-chewie.
