KINSHIP CIRCLE PRIMARY / PERMISSION TO CROSSPOST

7/5/09: UPDATE - Stu Dies July 23. Stop Them. Act Before 7/13/09.

Kinship Circle's 6/18 Stu alert asked you to flood Los Angeles offices with

pleas for the dog's life. Now, a 6/23/09 court decision leaves Stu with a

July 23 execution date -- despite testimony from acclaimed animal experts

that Stu poses no threat to humans.

To save Stu, his person wants you to know:

(It's tangled. Kinship Circle didn't write the politics! We just want to save Stu.)

1. LOS ANGELES BOARD OF ANIMAL SERVICES must hold a special meeting BEFORE

July 13, 2009 (which is their next regular meeting). The Board president or

three Commissioners are empowered to schedule this special meeting -- but NO

ONE HAS CALLED FOR IT. It's purpose would be to discuss a Board

recommendation, in writing, to spare Stu and send him home. The Board's

letter would then go to the Los Angeles City Council and Mayor.

2. By the Board's 7/13 meeting, Commissioners must vote to send the Stu

recommendation to L.A. CITY COUNCIL. Then, either full Council or a Public

Safety Committee will address Stu's fate. Next, the CITY ATTORNEY would

advise City Council on its legal powers to save Stu and send him home. Wait,

there's even more red tape: The Board of Animal Services must also vote on a

60-day suspension of the order to kill Stu.

3. The MAYOR decides Stu’s fate, if City Council votes to make a Stu

recommendation to the mayor.

YOUR JOB:

Email or preferably FAX your demand that the Board call and hold a special

meeting before 7/13/09.

1. FAX L.A. BOARD OF ANIMAL SERVICES: 213-482-9511

ON YOUR FAX COVER SHEET: Direct the Board Secretary to forward your fax to

all Board members immediately.

2. FAX BOARD PRESIDENT TARIQ KHERO at his office: 310-392-9029

(Nasatir, Hirsch, Podberesky & Genego, PLC)

3. CALL TARIQ KHERO at his office: 310-854-4170

4. EMAIL ALL ANIMAL SERVICES BOARDMEMBERS AND REQUEST A REPLY:

tariqkhero, ninekitties, ireneponce,

secundar, ajq1trq2

5. CC JEFF ON YOUR EMAILS: stu.911

6. FLOOD ANIMAL SERVICES WITH CALLS: 213-482-9506, 9501, 9505, 9504

Demand the Board hold a special meeting before 7/13/09 to discuss a written

recommendation to spare Stu and send him home.

SUGGESTED TALKING POINTS:

Please make some words your own. You do NOT need to use every point.

-- I respectfully demand that L.A. Board of Animal Services hold a special

meeting BEFORE 7/13/09, to form a written recommendation to spare Stu and

send him home.

-- Please do not allow Stu's execution. The bite incident occurred when a

pet-sitter tried to harness him after he'd sustained a torn ear in an

atypical scuffle with another household dog. It is accepted knowledge that

injured animals may react defensively.

-- Commissioner Archie Quincey, a 30-year veteran of L.A. Country Animal

Control, later described the bites as "a couple of puncture wounds."

-- Stu was wrongfully seized from a locked kennel in Jeff de la Rosa's

backyard in Aug. 2005. After that, L.A. Animal Services mismanaged the case,

resulting in two years of court proceedings. During this time documents and

attempts to reveal the truth about Stu were inexplicably blocked.

-- Dr. Richard Polsky, a co-creator of City criteria for gauging dangerous

dogs, and Bobby Dorofshar of New Leash on Life, also a City advisor and

one-time member of its Spay/Neuter Advisory Committee -- have testified that

Stu poses no threat to humans and is not considered dangerous.

-- Conclusions that Stu is non-aggressive stem from expert assessment of

Stu's pre- and post-incident behavior, plus comprehension of how the

victim's actions may have triggered the bites.

-- Please let a now elderly dog, who aged from 6 to 10 while impounded,

live his final days at home with Jeff de la Rosa. Stu's life depends upon

the Board's move to hold a special meeting BEFORE 7/13/09. People worldwide

hope you take this step to save Stu's life.
