Many people are asking the Eastern Coyote Institute how they can stop the sadistic abuse of our wildlife. Here is how: Write to the people below and tell them you want hunting coyotes with dogs in New York stopped, bag limits imposed on fox, coyote and crows and relaying dogs chasing coyotes stopped effective immediately. It will just take a few minutes. A predators role is to control prey populations, and that is important so that prey don't over graze land and destroy their own food sources. Predators aren't supposed to control other predators, Nature doesn't work that way. Man has quite an ego and has misunderstood and abused his of "dominion over animals" . No doubt, his "dominion over animals" should be taken away. Did Biologists Release Cougars to Control the Coyote Population? No. C'Mon, do you really believe this stuff? A little knowledge of cougar and coyote biology as well as Federal Law will answer this one for you. Cougars have no interest in killing coyotes, and in fact are easily treed by any member of the canine species. Any legitimate (the key word here) cougar sightings are no doubt the occasional released exotic pet. Were Coyotes deliberately released in the Eastern States?NO. Some people actually believe that the conservation agencies stocked coyotes in the Eastern states to control the deer population. We already know that coyotes can not control the deer population and there are more deer and turkey than ever, so why would they have to? Coyotes naturally expanded their range, coming into New England through Maine and New York. they have been around isnce at least the early 1920's. Some scientists believe they have been here all along, since remains have been found in certain archeological finds. Will Coyotes Cause Prey Species to Become Extinct? NO. A smart predator would NEVER kill all his prey. Coyotes are a smart predator and have never been ersponsible for killing oof a species. Man however, is a different story. Since Man has walked the earth, they have directly caused the extinction and extirpation of millions of species of plants and animals. Do Coyotes Kill Domestic Cats and Dogs?Sure. So do cars, diseases, neighbors guns, owls, domestic dogs, poisons, traps, snares and over crowded shelters. If you allow your cats and dogs to roam freely something bad IS going to happen to them. Dogs and Cats kill plenty of wildlife on their own too. It is easy to blame the coyotes when your pet comes up missing, but face the facts here. Keep your animals near you and in the home and they will live a long healthy life. Do Coyotes Control Deer Populations? Not according to Deer Biologists. Ken Koerth, noted deer biologist is quoted in Whitetail Magazine as saying that "coyotes normally can't control deer populations on their own". Many deer hunters are disappointed when they return home empty handed and find it easier to blame coyotes than themselves. Ask the home owners in the suburbs if there are not enough deer... Ask the Auto Insurance Agents what they think too... What are the Coyote Bite and Death StatisticsDid you know that there is only one human death attributed to a coyote attack in recorded history? Compare to the 15 - 20 deaths per year attributed to domestic dog attacks. Coyote bites that require hospitalization are extremely rare and only about 20-30 in recorded history. Compare this to the roughly 1,000 domestic dog bites per day treated in USA emergency rooms! Coyote attacks are clearly not a threat- but domestic dog attacks ARE. The one human death as well as most of the attacks were caused by people knowingly feeding coyotes. The moral here? Don't feed the coyotes. Do Coyotes Decrease Turkey Populations?NO. Disease can wipe out an entire flock of birds. Coyotes prey on the slowest, weakest birds. It is these birds that are likely coming down with a virus that could potentially wipe out the entire flock. Studies show that the Wild Turkey Population in New England is larger and stronger than ever - Thanks to coyotes! Does Killing Coyotes Control Their Population?FACT: NO! Did you know that when coyotes are killed it stimulates population growth through larger litters, stronger pups and more breeding females in an area? The only thing that controls the population of coyotes is the amount of available prey. Hunting and trapping causes MORE coyotes the following year! Pass it along so that everyone might be educated to the horror of using dogs to kill coyotes How Coyote Hunting with Dogs is Done Most people don't really know how coyote hunting with dogs is done. They assume that it is a quick and humane death for the coyote and lots of fun for the dogs. NOT SO. Watch this video: Download Wp9lR6A4_c0 In the summer, they are trained on penned fox and coyotes. Yes, pens where the fox and coyotes have no chance to escape. The pens are lined with electrified fence that will deliver a strong shock to any animal that touches it. There are tubes and large pipes that the foxes and coyotes can use to hide in, but these are often blocked before the dogs are let loose so that the coyotes and foxes can not run into them to escape the dogs. There are photos taken by the hunters of their dogs killing the helpless foxes and coyotes outside of the blocked tubes. The pens are used during the "off season", usually the hot summer months. Be sure to check out the website http://www.coyoterescue.org/ for more info on the use of live foxes and coyotes to train dogs. The hunters fasten GPS tracking devices to their dogs collars. The GPS tells the hunter where their dog is. It doesn't control where it goes or what it chases, or anything else the dog does. The dogs are taken to an area where they might cross a coyote track. These areas have often been baited with deer carcasses in prior weeks. This helps insure the dog will find a track. Once a track is found, the dogs are released to follow it. They go wherever the tracks go - across your property, across county and state property, and across posted land whether or not permission has been granted by the landowner. Often the dogs change course if they see another species, such as deer or fox and chase that too. You need to know that it is illegal for these hunters to allow their dogs to run on or across your land without your express written permission. If you see their trucks with the dog boxes in the back, chances are, they are trespassing. Get license plate numbers! You can call your State Troopers, Sheriffs, Conservation Law Officers and make a complaint. Chances are these trespassers will be gone before help arrives and they count on that, so get license plate numbers and give them to the law enforcement. Press charges too, or the guys will be back the following weekend doing it again. Make sure your property is well posted so the charges stick! What a lot of people don't know is how the coyote is actually killed.. Teams of fresh dogs are used to run the coyote to exhaustionsometimes for as many as 8 hours. The guys use their GPS devices to watch the location of the dogs, then drive their trucks to the closest location and drop fresh dogs. If they see the coyote run across the road or across a field, they will try to cripple it with a shot to the hip. This is done so that the dogs can now catch the crippled coyote. The "Kill dogs" are released on the coyote and the helpless crippled coyote is torn apart as the hunters encourage their dogs to kill their cousin. The hunters use encouragement such as "Git that Yote, good boy!" as the dogs bite and attack the coyote. Often as many as 6 or more dogs are used to tear the living wounded coyote to bits. This violent, torturous death can take 20 minutes, sometimes more. When that coyote is dead or near death, the dogs are sent to go find another track. Here is a video to show you Download 1JfqB_s3pAo Don't fall for the "this is tradition" defense. I don't recall GPS tracking devices and automobiles being used by our fore fathers, do you? Check out the files on this site that are full of photos. Notice that in most of the photos you can see the shot placement in the hind legs, sometimes the shoulder area. The hunters are good shots and are very careful to only wound, not kill the coyote. They want their dogs "to get some chewing in" as they call it. Watching the scene is worse than watching a pitbull fight, which is of course, illegal. So why is killing coyotes with dogs legal in every state in the USA? Because not enough people know about it and how inhumane it is. These are the lowest of the low hunters. These hunters do not go for the quick humane kill like ethical hunters do. They take pleasure in torturing and maiming their prey. Their own dogs are often wounded in the process, but they don't care. Many of their dogs race across roads in front of cars during the chase- putting human lives and of course the dogs lives at risk. Do you own property in the country that you don't have constant watch over? There is a good chance that the coyote hunters are using your property for their sadistic bloodsport. Start watching, inform your neighbors and local law enforcement. Post your property well and have neighbors watch for the hunters trucks for you. Get those license plate numbers and press charges. These hunters have no respect for wildlife, no respect for posted property and certainly no respect for you. Download Yotehunt004-1 The Use of Dogs to Hunt Coyotes: An All Creatures Animal Rights Article Jessica Hamman, Ban Live Bait Dog Training Many of you are probably aware of the sick and disgusting practice of hunting predators with dogs thanks to an article printed in the Summer 2008 edition of C.A.S.H (Coalition to Abolish Sport Hunting). The cruelty inflicted on the wildlife is clear, but what may be less clear to some is the horrendous abuse of the dogs. No one could do a better job of describing the cruelty inflicted upon these dogs than the hunters themselves, so much of what you will read comes directly from their web forum discussions. The traditional method of hunting coyotes and foxes with dogs has the hunter release a pack of hounds to search out and chase the wildlife. A wide variety of dog breeds are used as the chase hounds, but the primary concern is that the dogs be fast, as their job is to keep the coyote running until it is exhausted. Once the coyote is exhausted a second group of dogs is released to tear the coyote apart, these are the kill hounds. The dogs often sustain serious injuries while fighting the coyote and are at high risk for the contraction of parasites and disease including rabies. Hunters have no regard for the health and well being of these dogs, they run them in the snow and subfreezing conditions, and make light of the dogs suffering. In order to train the dogs to chase only the hunter's preferred game, the hunters use shock collars. Nitro223, who has his own hunting board, recommends the following to prevent dogs from chasing unwanted prey. " I would also collar both of them with a good shock collar and if I saw them on a deer [chasing a deer instead] I would try my very best to make it the worst experience in their life. In other words shock them on the highest setting til they quit or the battery goes dead." If the hunter doesn't have a shock collar Foxdog449 recommends throwing rocks at the dogs to correct unwanted behavior. The hunters also have ideas on how to get the dogs to stop barking in the kennel... "He seems to get messages quick for he barked when I chained him and I had to shoot him with my bb gun and he shut up... I have been using the hush bb gun method all these years... I bet I have worn out two or three red riders over the years" several other hunters then went on to agree with this poster and to praise this method of "training" Not all dogs show a natural propensity for violence, and many have to be encouraged. Kbaden recommends "If you can shoot a yote without killing it and turn your dogs on him, that would help you figure out which dogs will fight and which wont!" Most hunters believe that if you want good hunting dogs your best bet is to have your own pups, those pups who are not good candidates are euthanized. " Yeah we do spend a lot of time at the vet. We always put at least 3 dogs down." Salmonslayer2010 on nodakoutdoors.com Another, less common, type of coyote hunting is also becoming more popular.. In this type of hunting, the dogs are used as bait to draw coyotes towards the hunter who then shoots the coyote. An article entitled 'Coyote Doggin' by Cal Taylor has this to say about lure dog hunting, "A family group of coyotes has an extreme territorial instinct and if a strange canine shows up in their territory, they will do their utmost to remove the intruder from the area and protect their pups from harm... In trying to remove the dog from their territory, coyotes will chase it back to a waiting hunter." The level of depravity that a person must have to use an animal's instinct to protect its young, to lead it to slaughter is inconceivable. It is not at all surprising that those same individuals would feel no remorse in essentially using their dogs as live bait for a pack of coyotes. Later in the article, the author goes on to say, "Be aware that your dog must be physically able to defend himself if confronted in the open by angry coyotes..."; Making it clear that the dog is at all times in serious danger. This horrendous "sport" in all its forms is still legally engaged in, but we ask that you use your voice to help to stop it. Both the dogs and the wildlife involved deserve better than what the law currently allows. Just Because Coyote Hunting with Dogs is Legal, Doesn't Make it Right Most people are completely unaware of how coyote hunting with the use of dogs is done, let alone that it is legal in their state. Just because it is legal, doesn't mean that it is humane or right- it just means that not enough people know that it is done and how it is done. Please check out this entire educational site and the photos and the videos that give an accurate portrait of what the hunters are doing to our wildlife. In a twisted way, these hunters feel justified in torturing coyotes before they are killed. Deliberate wounding so that the coyotes cannot escape the wrath of the trained "kill dogs" is especially disturbing. This behavior is no different than that of the men who run Pitbull fighting operations, the victims are just different animals, innocent coyotes. Had Michael Vick been caught deliberately crippling his bait dogs so they could not escape he surely would be in jail for life- not getting out of jail soon. Had Vick allowed his kill dogs to chase his bait dogs to exhaustion by using relay teams of fresh dogs, he would have never seen the light of day outside a jail cell again. These hunters are just as bad- they just haven't been caught YET! The "Good Old Boy Club" has tried to keep these nasty secrets of their sport quiet for years, but the truth is slowly coming out- and they are NOT happy about it! They are denying a lot, but the pictures and videos which they so proudly share with others tell the truth. They threaten anyone who dares threaten their killing sport that they are addicted to. They are addicted to torturing animals and the fact that right now killing coyotes in "any manner" is acceptable, legal and they will continue. We can stop these cowards though. What can you do today? Contact your state wildlife department and legislators. Make copies of the photos and text on this site. Use the photos to educate them as to how the hunting laws in regards to the use of dogs are being abused. Pass the word around- educate your neighbors and friends. Contact your states Humane Society and tell them that you will not tolerate cruelty to domestic dogs - OR wild dogs. All are intelligent, living , breathing beings who have a right to a peaceful life. This is NO DIFFERENT than dog fighting! Lets work together to stop the men who are abusing their "right" to kill animals. Fish and Wildlife Doubts Coyote is Calf Killer This article was in a Florida Newspaper. Responding to concerns of a Jackson County land owner about his cattle, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigated the death of a calf and ended up with photos of a coyote. The pictures of the coyote eating the calf do not necessarily mean that the calf was killed by coyotes, according to FWC representative Stan Kirkland.. “We know they fed on it after it died, but we don’t know whether the calf died first from something else, like natural causes,†Kirkland said. He said it would be unlikely for a coyote to kill a cow or calf. FWC investigators visited the 300-acre farm last Wednesday and Thursday, over a citizen’s concern that the calf might have been killed by a cougar. “The investigator searched the site and did locate several coyote tracks around the calf and along a nearby road. He didn’t see any cat tracks,†Kirkland said. Kirkland said investigators set up a game camera at the location, near U.S.. Highway 231 and Milpond Road, and captured 15 images of a coyote eating the calf carcass. Concerns over a possible cougar in the area were apparently based on information that a nearby resident owned five de-clawed cougars, Kirkland said. The FWC investigator visited that residence and learned that all five of the cats had died from feline leukemia. The owner showed the investigator their burial sites, Kirkland explained. Kirkland said it would be highly unusual for a coyote to attack and kill a cow or calf. “Coyotes are infamous for being a threat primarily to sheep and smaller animals, or birds. Sheep tend to bunch up and not run away. They don’t have the ability to fight or get away from the coyotes. So sheep are easy pickins’ for coyotes,†Kirkland said. He said coyotes are similar to ants — they’re everywhere. “From coast to coast, they cover this country. From the Pacific to the Atlantic, from New Mexico to Canada,†he said. Coyotes aren’t as big as some people think, he noted. “They usually weigh in around 30 pounds. They’re typically not that big. They belong to the canine family, obviously, and they’re scavengers. They’ll scavenge anything that’s dead and they’re also very efficient predators on small animals and birds. And they feed at night,†Kirkland said. One meal coyotes usually won’t go for is people. “They’re not a threat to people. You have a better chance at getting struck by lightning,†Kirkland said. People dealing with a coyote problem can shoot them, Kirkland said. “We’ve got lost of coyotes. They’re not protected. People can, if they feel like it, shoot them on their property or hire a trapper,†Kirkland said. But he doesn’t recommend trying to wipe out the coyote population. “If you try suppressing a coyote population, and you kill as many of you can, what we’ve seen is in that situation the females tend to give birth to larger litters. They have this innate ability to populate an area,†Kirkland advised. As an alternative, he said some farmers opt for a big dog, which for unknown reasons seems to deter coyotes from entering the property. He said the same goes for burros. Kirkland also noted that coyotes have no affect on the deer population. “Deer and coyotes are compatible. Coyotes don’t go for them and despite what some may think, they’re no threat to hunting,†Kirkland said. Man Shot While Hunting Coyotes in Iowa LETTS, Iowa (AP) — A Letts man has been shot while hunting coyotes in eastern Iowa. Authorities say he was shot in the upper right arm about 1 p.m. on Sunday while hunting in Louisa County. Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say that 47-year-old Dennis Hiller was putting his rifle over his shoulder when the sling became unhooked from the gun. The rifle fired when it hit the ground. Officials say Hiller was taken by helicopter to University Hospitals in Iowa City where he was undergoing surgery. His condition wasn't immediately known. Coyotes Found Skinned Near School Coyote hunters? The Edmond Sun EDMOND — Pathologists have found that six animals originally believed to be mutilated dogs dumped in a creek near an Edmond high school turned out to be coyotes.Thursday evening, Edmond Police received a call from an unknown person who reported that several mutilated dogs were lying in the creek near Santa Fe High School, Officer James Hamm said. Police found what was believed to be six skinned dogs lying in the creek, Hamm said. Their front legs had been cut off at the knees and were also lying in the creek. It appeared the dogs’ remains were just dumped there. Hamm said it is believed that the animal skins were sold for money.“It is unusual because we are in a major, populated area,†Hamm said about the incident. “They weren’t located out in the country. They were located near a high school.â€Investigators said there were no foot prints in the creek, and there were no signs that the animals were killed at the scene. Police said it appeared that they had been shot.Police helped collect the remains, which were sent to the Oklahoma State University Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. Greg Campbell, the lab’s chief pathologist, said Friday morning three staff members conducted a necropsy, the equivalent of a human autopsy, on the animals, and discovered they were coyotes. Their paws were compared to dog paws, and their teeth and fur remnants also were coyote-like, Campbell said. Additionally, examiners found no dog food, but rodent parts, feathers and a lot of fur in their digestive tracts, he said.Campbell said the examinations took a total of 90 minutes, and they were documented with photographs since it could be an animal cruelty case.Hamm said Edmond Animal Welfare officers are determining whether there is anything illegal about the incident. Campbell said a report would be given to Edmond Animal Welfare during the coming week. Oklahoma’s Animal Protection Act includes the prohibition of animal cruelty and animal fighting. Any animal in such an incident is considered an abused or neglected animal.Under the law, individuals who injure, maim or mutilate any animal, whether wild or tame, commit a felony and face up to one year of jail time, up to five years in the state penitentiary or a fine of up to $5,000. Campbell said if the coyotes were hunted for their fur he didn’t know if it would meet the threshold of animal abuse or cruelty.Hamm encouraged anyone with information about this case to call Edmond Crime Stoppers at 359-4466 or Edmond Animal Welfare at 216-7615. The coyote hunters get away with tresspassing on private property for their sadistic recreational activity. Watch for their trucks with the dog boxes on the back parked on country roads. They and their dogs are using your property, posted lands and public lands that are do not allow hunting. Their dogs chase wildlife across roads, potentially causing accidents. You DO have rights! Get license plate numbers and have them arrested for tresspassing- otherwise they will be back again soon for more killing. The fellow below is quoted as saying "I let the dogs finish him off LOL!" Do you want your children to witness something like this in your own back yard? It could very well happen. Coyotes Not That Dangerous Experts Contend An excellent article written by Pamela McLoughlin from the New Haven Register, New Haven CT January 31, 2009 BETHANY — After receiving a flurry of panicked calls in response to what was described by some media as a “coyote attack†on a 17-year-old girl in her yard Tuesday, wildlife experts have this message for residents: Relax and let your kids go outside again.First, according to police, the girl was never bitten or attacked but was apparently scared and injured from an encounter with pricker bushes.Second, wildlife experts say coyotes get a bum rap in general and are often the first to be blamed for missing cats when indeed cars pose a much greater danger to pets. The wildlife hotline at the Humane Society of the United States’ office in Woodbridge has been ringing off the hook since news broke of the alleged coyote attack. “This is scaring people and they’re afraid to let their children out of the houses, which is really uncalled for,†said Laura Simon, field director for the Urban Wildlife Program for the Humane Society of the United States. “It’s a fairy tale: Here’s the big bad wolf coming to take their children away,†she said.State Trooper David Merriam said the teen was in a yard on a farm on Litchfield Turnpike — not walking on Litchfield Turnpike as originally reported — when something came out from behind a structure that she thought was a coyote. She ran or fell into pricker bushes and received scratches from those on her upper thighs, he said. At first she said she had been bitten by a coyote, then said she was not, Merriam said.Emergency responders couldn’t find any puncture marks on the girl and so she was not transported by them to the hospital.Merriam said there haven’t been any other reports of coyote attacks in Bethany that he can recall.Simon said the lack of bite mark evidence speaks for itself. “If you were bitten by a coyote there would be no doubt,†she said. She said in just about all the cases of a person being nipped or bitten by a coyote, the animal either was being fed by humans and was used to being near people, or was rabid.Simon noted a case last year in which a woman was nipped in the knee by a coyote, but as it turns out, that animal had become brazen because employees at a Branford McDonald’s were feeding it. At that time, Paul Rego, a state Department of Environmental Protection wildlife biologist, said it was the first time in his 20 years on the job that he’s ever heard of a coyote injuring a human being.Simon said some people make the mistake of leaving cat or dog food out for coyotes to eat, and the animals then become used to people. She said people can reverse the feeling of comfort coyotes can gain around humans by chasing them or making loud noises by banging pot tops together.Often the howling of a family of coyotes scares people who interpret it as a battle cry, she said, but usually it’s just communication because the animals are social with each other. She said the state estimates there are 2,000 coyotes in Connecticut and they are more noticed or seen when they appear in the suburbs because they are more visible than in the woods.Simon said a call to wildlife experts often goes like this:“There’s a coyote in my yard and he’s menacing,†the caller might say.“What’s he doing?†the wildlife expert will ask.“He’s in my yard,†comes the response.“But what’s he doing?†is the next question.“Laying their sunning himself,†the caller will report. But, said Simon, “Just because they see a coyote, it’s not menacing.â€â€œThis is not a new threat. We just have to be smart,†she said.Pamela McLoughlin can be reached at pmcloughlin. Read All about Coyote Hunting with dogs in Iowa Get a real feel for the sadistic nature of the hunters. What hypocrites. http://tesboard68150.yuku.com/forums/65/t/Yote-Hunting.html How Coyote Hunting With Dogs Ends Here are two videos to show you how coyote hunting with dogs ends. This coyote has been chased to exhaustion by several teams of radio collared dogs. GPS systems were used to track the location of the coyote as it ran from the dogs. The hunters followed in their trucks until they saw it running in an open field or across a road. They then shot it in the front shoulder or hind (or both) to cripple it. They encouraged their dogs to attack and kill the helpless crippled coyote. This is presently LEGAL in New York where this video was shot in late January of 2009. This disgusting recreational activity should be stopped. Can't these guys go find some children to help, or some other activity that is useful and humane? Perhaps they woudn't be safe around children anyway. The first link is unfortunately just embedded HTML, but it should work. The second link is a fancy pic that will link to a second video.

Some Facts from the Hunters When speaking to members of the general public the coyote hunters like to spin very tall tales woven to make the coyotes look like demons that are going to kill our pets and babies if they aren't controlled. They come up with all kinds of "facts" told out of context. Their goal is to make the general public fearful of coyotes and grateful that we have heroes like the coyote hunters to protect us. Below is a typical line of bull given on a Maine Hunters website to justify a coyote killing contest where money is given for the biggest and the most coyotes killed by a hunter or hunting team. They have a photo contest too.. “This contest is intended to encourage the harvest of coyotes and to foster more sportsman to hunt and harvest this predator that is "over populated" and destroying, Maine and other States game populations at an increasingly high rate. Snaring coyotes in Maine has been eliminated by Anti hunting groups and now we hunters & trappers have to thin them out one at a time or all game species are in danger. Coyotes are in such large numbers in all areas of the State of Maine, that healthy deer are being run down and killed, wise old turkeys sit in trees all day for fear of landing to be attacked by coyotes, in the deep snow Turkeys land in the morning and are attacked and helpless, domestic cats and dogs are being eaten and killed as food for coyotes, rabbits, grouse and all small game are targets of these predators. The list of their destruction can go on and on! The facts are in.. coyotes are predators, they are over populating since snaring was outlawed in Maine, the problem is here and sportsman have an opportunity to manage this problem, their is NO-Closed Season on coyotes here in Maine and in most USA States! Hunting opportunities are year around! So check your local State laws and give it a try, coyote hunting is by far one of the most challenging hunting sports in the world! “ Poor helpless turkeys. This above paragraph is comical piece, typical of the misinformation spread around . The fact is, while some gullible individuals actually believe the above statement, most of the hunters really do know the truth about killing coyotes- which is that it does nothing to control their population and actually stimulates the population growth. They all want you to allow them to hunt on your land though, so you won't find them spilling the beans to the public. Below are some actual quotes by these hunters told when they are talking among themselves. At last - some truth! "Only so many carp in the pond... we took 15 coyotes out of one very small block last year and haven't cut a track there yet this year... next block over is loaded but of course we cant get permission there lol you will never wipe out the coyotes... like xxxxx said; they react to a decrease in population by spitting out more pups per litter." "...never wipe them out with hounds, the harder you hunt them the more they bred. it would take a very bad plauge to wipe the yotes out of a area. they say only 2 thing on this earth that would servive a nucular holicost would be cock roaches and coyotes..." "They usually move in a couple days." "Nah. Coyotes travel many miles. More will move in." "I have always said "shoot 5 and go back in a week and there will be 10." "Some areas have a lot and some don't. If there's food there, they will be there." The coyotes there are never disturbed and when they breed and disperse the young fill in the good habitat where we killed last year. It is a natural cycle and research shows they do breed according to habitat conditions so if the population goes down food goes up and they just have more young. My Uncle lived in Colorado all his life and when he came to visit he was telling me how the government trappers spent millions on trying to exterminate them only to find that the were fighting a loosing battle. It's kind of a good thing if you ask me. If we killed them all this would be a pretty boring sport. Beside where would I get my coyote fix....???LOL!!! theyare there because there is foodthere if you kill a bunch more will come. it is my understading that only one pair does the breeding in an area. As soon as you kill one of them or both, everything that is left breeds until there is another dominant pair established. you cant kill them off but you can thin them out for a while. That could very well be!!! We killed a big male and female on the one farm 2 years ago in deer season. It was odd to see coyotes in this area before this. The following spring the farmer said there were pups everywhere while he was working the fields. We found 3 areas on the farm where they were denning, but went back a year later and the dens were all empty. There are alot of coyotes in the area now. So I am thinking you are right. Finally some intelligent statements by the hunters. So, while they are telling you they are needed to control the coyote populations, they admit to each other that they really don't and in fact cause an increase in the populations! They get permission to hunt land from a lot of farmers- I wonder if the farmers know what will really happen when these guys start to "control" the coyotes? Below find some pictures of all of the foxes and coyotes they killed for a contest. What a shame. Michael Vick's in the Woods? Here, straight from their mouths is what the hnters to do train their dogs to fight and kill a coyote. These are Michael Vick's in the woods - using coyotes and their dogs like Pit Bulls. Getting hounds to fight coyote? I have a young pack of walkers that i run inside and ouside the wire. I'm having trouble with them running deer some and have shocked their behinds off several times. I don't have an old broke dog but one is semi broke, she won't start it but will join in on a deer race.coon hunters catch coons and let their young hounds fight them and kill them and tree them etc. Would it help to catch coyote and let my pack of young hounds bay him in the trap and kill him if they will? Alot of my problem running outside is my dogs will be running a yote and another yote will be running them howling the whole time and i want my pack to just stop and kill this son of a gun. Any insight on this will be appreciated....Page Callaway Opelika Al. Re: Getting hounds to fight coyote? It only took one time for my hound to get bit by a yote and he knew that it was time to fight! He has now killed 7 yotes by himself! He is a Blanket Back Plott! If you can shoot a yote with out killing it and turn your dogs on him, that would help you figure out which dogs will fight and which ones wont! That's how I do it and it works!Kevin Edited by: kbaden at: 9/20/07 11:18 am Why are Coyotes Making so Much Noise in October? The young of the year are dispersing now, so in October you will hear more howling (yipping actually) than other times of the year. They aren't howling because they are celebrating a kill, that is a wives tale. They are communicating with each other because their summer families are separating. Remember that just a few coyotes can sound like many when they raise their voices to communicate. They do this by yipping in multiple alternating pitches. What is actually only two coyotes can sound like fifteen! So, don't be alarmed when you hear the coyotes singing- it isn't that they just killed something, it is simply because they are talking to each other. The yipping is also a territorial thing to other coyotes. You may be lucky enough to hear coyotes on one hill start yipping when they hear coyotes across the way. They are announcing their presence and letting the other group know that "This hill is occupied!" You may often hear coyotes yip in response to a fire whistle or sirens. They do this because they just can't help it! Are Coyotes Responsible for the Decline of Deer in the Woods? The answer to this question is "NO".Many hunters who didn't get their deer opening day are using coyotes as a scapegoat.Today I will list just a few, with more to come on future posts.People in the suburbs are complaining there are too many deer, people who hunt in the outer areas are complaining there aren't enough deer.Large populations of deer previous years have eaten all of the browse and the browse line is now too high for the deer to reach, so they either starve or move to the suburbs where food is plentiful via gardens, ornamental plants and farmers fields.Extensive logging has affected the wintering areas where deer herd up. They have had to move,Deer move with the food supply - a tree stand that perhaps was a good one years ago needs to be movedLife is just faster these days. Hunters are becoming more impatient as years progress, wanting instant gratification, like going to the McDonalds drive-thru rather than spending the time researching and area and sitting for long periods. Deer are getting smarter and becoming more nocturnal- Coyotes may be partially responsible for the deer becoming more alert and smarter, but is that really a bad thing? This is what predators are supposed to do.Some hunters are complaining that the government offices responsible for deer management have given farmers too many permits to shoot deer eating cropsCoyotes are performing a job- to take the weak , and they scavenge carrion. It is true that the diet of the New England coyote in the winter is mostly comprised of deer. But this does not mean that those deer were healthy adult deer. Many deer are hit by cars and killed and wounded. Many are wounded by arrows and bullets during the hunting season.Don't forget the deer that are shot and not recovered, or the gut piles left by a successful hunt, or the carcass discarded from a butchered deerWhy would a coyote waste energy attempting to bring down a strong healthy deer when all of this carrion and weak and injured prey is available?Hunters often complain that they shot a deer, and by the time they found it, it had been eaten by coyotes. Perhaps they need to find their deer more quickly, rather than waiting overnight to find it. A good shot should fell a deer whithin minutes. Perhaps the blame here shouldn't be on the coyotes, but the marksman? Do Coyotes Kill Deer Fawns? Some people are concerned that coyotes are killing deer fawns. Lets talk about that. There is an urban legend, or myth, (a rumour) that is being perpetuated in certain circles about a trail camera that was set up at a coyote den that shows "40 dead fawns in a week killed and brought to the pups. Fawn heads everywhere". Like many myths, this one is most likely untrue, and just a tale to get you to think coyotes are bad. Lets start by asking for legitimate, dated photos. Then of course they will need to be authenticated- perhaps a trail camera that actually shows a coyote (not a human) bringing healthy, live caught (not scavanged) fawns to a real den of pups. Mysteriously when asked for photos the answer is always "someoone else has them". No such photos really exist.. Of course some people are gullible and will believe this and pass the rumor along - and of course the more a story is told, the grander it gets. Fawns have a natural mechanism to avoid predation by coyotes. They lay very still and don't move. When a predator (i.e. human, coyote or bear) comes close, they lay very still and don't get up and run. Since predators are attracted by movement (picture your family cat here), unless the fawn is moving he will most likely go unnoticed. Of course, an ill-informed human is likely to pick up the fawn, believing it is "abandoned by its mother", bring it home, let the kids and dog play with it , give it cows milk, and of course as a result the fawn will probably die. However, a coyote or bear will likely just walk by and leave it alone. When a fawn loses its mother (usually hit by a car), when it gets hungry, it may walk around bleating. This of course will attract a predator and the fawn will be taken. It was going to die anyway, at least it became part of the food chain and was used to feed and sustain life for others.Deer often have twins and triplets. Rarely do all the triplets survive. At least one, sometimes two or all three will be very small and unthrifty and will die. These fawns will become food for other animals. That is natures way.Different viruses or bacterial infections will often go through a population, deer are no exception. Some years illness will claim a lot of fawns. These fawns will become food for predators. Coyotes and bears will take some of these fawns. In suburban areas where deer are a problem, the loss of fawns can be a good thing as it slows the growth of the deer population. Coyotes and bears themselves however can not control the deer population. Some deer hunters who don't like coyotes think it is a terrible thing if a coyote kills a fawn - yet they don't hesitate to pull the trigger themselves that very fall on the same fawn. A better understanding of the circle of life and predator/prey relationships is needed here. It isn't the "Bad predators against the good prey". It is nature as God intended it to work. It is Biology and Conservation in action.Predators keep prey populations in check and weed out the weak. Man however, takes the strong (Big Buck contests). Who is wrong here? Shouldn't hunters also be taking the small and the weak so that the strong can pass on their genese and produce more viable young? Imagine how glorious and big bucks would be if man didn't keep killing the big ones, but rather allowed them to live for many years passing along those superior genetics! Do you really want these guys in the woods 'Managing" our wildlife? Is there a reason why capturing these beautiful animals on camera wasn't thrill enough? It is important that the general public really understands what is happening to our wildlife in the woods. Then when legislation comes up they can make a sound decision to vote on whether they want OUR wildlife treated this way. What if they call in your dog by mistake? Do you think they would take the shot? Would you want to guess wrong? More videos to come. These men enjoy torturing and killing animals. Be aware. Be educated.
