On Sunday, June 21st, the doors to Petland in Cleveland Heights, OH closed for good. After 3+ years of demonstrations, leafleting, letters-to-the-editor, multiple Cleveland Plain Dealer "Animals in the News" columns (BIG thanks to reporter, Donna Miller) with information about Petland, community mailing with puppy mill information, and even walking door-to-door to educate the community when the store first opened...it finally happened!

Although everyone's hope was that Petland would "go humane" and stop selling dogs and supporting the puppy mill industry, apparently this wasn't something they would consider. We firmly believe the HSUS investigation and campaign against Petland, combined with the efforts of Concerned Citizens Against Petland, played a critical role in getting people to boycott the store.

A huge THANK YOU to all the dedicated activists who supported their efforts and those who participated in the protests...through all weather extremes...to give a voice to the dogs suffering in the mills and educate the public about why they should always adopt rather than shop for a dog.
