Alternate Perspective: Goals Gone Wild New Blog Entry, HRC-Authored, Entered on 6/16/2009 While working with animal groups on research studies and strategic planning, I often emphasize setting clear and measurable goals. Goals are important, especially for a relatively “young†cause such as animal protection, which arguably has much to learn from those in the corporate and academic worlds. However, a recent paper from Harvard Business School suggests that goals are overused and incorrectly applied in many situations. Of specific interest may be the discussion of the evolution of research and measurement, which addresses: Bringing media mix models into the digital era - Most major marketers conduct some form of media mix modeling but the results are sometimes erratic. The digital media causal relationship makes the media mix model variable. Social influence research - To understand an individual's influence across social networks, social graphs must be included in research methodology. Social media measurement - As businesses develop new ways to approach consumers, the impact of social media may be understood by developing a framework and model for understanding and benchmarking behavior, by using technologies to track viral media efforts, and by creating metrics around engagement and social impacts that can be tied to sales, conversions, or brand perceptions. by Razorfish Details: http://www.humanespot.org/node/3281 Unnecessary Source of Pain & Suffering or Necessary Management Tool?
