Guest guest
Wanted to pass this on that I read this morning: http://www.ocala.com/article/20090507/ARTICLES/905079971/1001/News01?Title=Ocala\ -plans-to-euthanize-ducks-at-Tuscawilla-Park Full text: Ocala plans to euthanize ducks at Tuscawilla Park OCALA - The city of Ocala's Recreation and Parks Department is planning to euthanize the roughly 200 Muscovy ducks they say are a nuisance at Tuscawilla Park while, across the street from the park, city firefighters have adopted as their mascot a mother duck that is sitting on a dozen eggs outside their station. " We are eagerly watching and waiting for the eggs to hatch, " said Ocala Fire Rescue Batalion Chief Brian Stoothoff. " They certainly are cute. " Apparently the firefighters are not the only ones who have been captivated by the ducks, because people have been feeding them in the park. But that is creating a problem for the parks department, which is planning to euthanize about 200 of the non-native birds. " When you have too many ducks in one area, they become diseased, " Recreation and Parks Department Director Kathy Crile said. " The habitat can't support all of them. " And they are messy. You can find the parks and recreation department here: Kathy Crile's e-mail address is KCrile. Please drop her a line, or call, to let them know this is terrible! Thank you, Jacqueline
