Guest guest
Please ask the Mayor of Espinho, in Portugal, to declare his city an Anti-Bullfighting City  The year of 2009 has been proving to be a very positive year for animals in Portugal. Following ANIMAL’s intensive campaigning and lobbying efforts to end bullfighting, since the beginning of the year, the Mayor of Viana do Castelo an important capital of the North of Portugal – has decided to purchase the local bullring, demolish it and build a science and education centre in its place, and has subsequently decided to proclaim Viana do Castelo Portugal’s first anti-bullfighting city. A few weeks later, the Mayors of the important cities of Braga (also in the North of Portugal) and Cascais (a highly touristic coastal village located right next to Lisbon) announced publicly that they would not authorise bullfights in their towns – namely two bullfights that were scheduled to take place in these towns in June. The Mayor of Cascais went farther and announced that he would also not authorise any spectacle with animals in mobile structures, such as animal circuses and rodeos. In the meanwhile, the Municipality of Sintra (another very important and also highly touristic town next to Lisbon) has also established a municipal regulation to protect animals in this village, which has, as one of its main consequences, the implication that no spectacle which involves the infliction of pain, suffering, lesions and / or death to animals will be authorised or supported by the municipality, which again means that not only bullfights but also animal circuses and rodeos will cease to be authorised in Sintra.  It is very important to stress out that all these victories – namely the end of bullfighting and other cruel spectacles in these towns – would have not been possible if it was not for your participation. However, ANIMAL is also in need of your financial support so that it can carry on its many and diversified efforts to forward animal protection in Portugal, namely to achieve the abolition of bullfighting. ANIMAL has called the Mayor of Espinho to not authorise these two bullfights and is calling the Municipality of Espinho to make this city an Anti-Bullfighting City.  Please ask the Mayor of Espinho to free this city from the sadistic torture of animals. I know that Espinho has been free from bullfighting in the recent years and I call on you to keep it like that.  The Mayors of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Cascais and Sintra have announced that they would no longer authorise bullfights in their towns. I ask you to please make the same decision and to please consider making Espinho Portugal’s second anti-bullfighting city.  Hoping that your response to my appeal may be a positive one and that I may be congratulating you – like many others in Portugal and all over the world will – for not authorising the torture of animals in your town, I will be looking forward for a response from you and I thank you in advance for your attention,  Yours, very respectfully,  [Name] [City, Country] [E-mail address]   Animal.org.pt :: No More Crimes Without Punishment :: ManifestoANIMAL.org  Please, do not keep this message only for yourself: please forward it to others who you think may also care about the plight of animals in Portugal and who may also want to help  If you want to start receiving ANIMAL´s e-Newsletters, please send a message saying “Subscribe†to miguel.moutinho  If you do not want to continue receiving ANIMAL´s e-Newsletters, please send a message saying “Remove†to miguel.moutinho
