Hopefully the BIG ORGS can bring horse racing/the use of horses for entertainment to the forefront again, esp. with these major news stories:

1) We have the horrific neglect case of 177 thoroughbreds on a farm in Upstate NY. I'm wondering why the perp isn't being tapped for all the money needed to go toward the horses' care??

Horse Racing Hall of Shame:

2) Then we have the article on the two racing horses who collided and had to be destroyed at the Finger Lakes track, again here in Upstate NY.

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20090418/SPORTS/904180333 ----> NOTICE how the article focuses much more on Tin Cup Chalice, the breadwinner, than the other horse, Zany. An industry based on greed at its finest.

3) Now we have 21 polo horses who have died in Wellington, FL.

----> NO MATTER WHAT THESE HORSES DIED FROM, IF THIS IS TRUE, WHY ON EARTH IS IT ALLOWED TO KEEP HAPPENING? "At the highly competitive level of the Wellington tournament, distributing 'cocktails' to horses prior to matches to enhance their performance is a common practice, said several polo experts. The steroid-like chemicals are given to horses mixed with their water or can be administered by needle, the sources said."

"According to several sources, the horses had a reaction to a steroid derivative that may have been tainted with a cleaning solution, the Sun Sentinel reported yesterday."

"One or two horses met a similar fate in Ocala within the past 2 years...the sickness was linked to contaminated feed."
