Unsound future plan for infected Baxter-Chimpanzees! Take part in the FOUR PAWS petition!

Dear Jill, For the past ten years 41 former lab-chimpanzees have been housed in the provisional "ape shelter" of the erstwhile Safari Park Gaenserndorf in Austria. In a long-term series of animal tests many of them were infected with HIV and Hepatitis. The "healthier" animals are now to be relocated to a Hungarian Zoo - the destiny of the apes remaining behind is unclear. FOUR PAWS is calling on pharmaceutical corporation Baxter to stop this plan and realize a sustainable and complete solution for all animals involved.International pharmaceutical group Baxter took over Austrian company Immuno in the year 1997 and decided to stop experimenting with the chimpanzees. In spite of warnings by experts the apes were sold off to the financially tarnished Safari Park Gaenserndorf.Baxter bears the responsibilityThe safari park went bankrupt in 2004 and the apes became part of the assets. Now the group of chimpanzees is to be torn apart at the urging of the liquidator. The "healthier" chimps are supposed to spend the rest of their lives in an inadequately landscaped facility in Hungary. For the agitated animals, this would mean being exposed, day in and day out, to the amusement of zoo visitors. No solution has yet been offered for the remaining apes. The degree of infection is unclear regarding many of them.Science has shown that chimpanzees resemble humans both biologically and emotionally. Therefore, experts recommend to save the traumatized apes from the stress of visitors, thus protecting their established group in order to grant them an agreeable evening of life.Help for our closest relativesSupport FOUR PAWS in their quest to help these animals. Your FOUR PAWS team Join the petition and send a remonstrative letter order to induce Baxter to participate in finding a better, adequate solution for the animals.
