[podcast available at full story link] A now-retired Los Angeles County assistant fire chief has filed acountersuit against his Riverside-area neighbor, claiming permanentdisability after the neighbor's puppy bit his hand. Glynn Johnson, 54, of the Woodcrest area southeast of Riverside, isfacing animal cruelty charges for beating the dog with a rock. The6-month-old German shepherd mix, Karley, suffered skull fractures andhad to be put to sleep. Her owners, the Toole family, sued Johnson last month seeking anunspecified amount for the loss of Karley, emotional distress and lostwages as a result of that distress. The Tooles have accused Johnson of letting Karley out of a securedfence with the intent of hurting her, according to their lawsuit.
