I received this great info earlier, and with permission I am passingalong:

Our Outreach team has worked hard to compile all the How's and Why'sof obtaining 501c3 non-profit status for an animal welfare organization.

Visit http://www.petfinde r.com/501c3/ and we will walk you, step-by-step, through the entire process.

As you contemplate your New Year resolutions, confirm whether yourorganization has achieved federal non-profit status, and if you partner with any groups, whether they have it. If not, we encourage you to move that to the top of your list of resolutions. As we explain athttp://www.petfinde r.com/501c3/ need.html, there arevarious ways that obtaining your 501c3 can help your organization.

One good example is the Petfinder.com Sponsor A Pet program(http://www.petfinde r.com/foundation /sponsorapet. html), which requires your organization to have either 501c3 status or, in the case of municipal agencies, a designated fund. Sponsor A Pet allows your on-line visitors to donate to you directly from your Pet Notes pages. The Petfinder.com Foundation passes along the donation (less a small administrative fee) and as long as the donor permits, thedonor information, so that you can thank them and hopefully cultivate a relationship.

Oh, and after GET 501c3 and JOIN SPONSOR A PET on your list ofresolutions, be sure to add TAKE SOME TIME TO RELAX. You work hard – and it is important that you take good care of you, so that you can keep taking good care of the adoptable pets who need you.

Happy Holidays and have a great adoption week.

". . . Saving just one pet won't change the world. . . but, surely, the world will change for that one pet . . . "
