Amazing. In Boston, protesters quietly holding signs in front of a restaurant that serves foie gras last week are assaulted by the chef, then arrested, stripped, brutalized and humiliated at the jail, but in San Diego, the City Council applauds protesters' efforts. I guess it just depends on how much the police are being paid by the restaurants......

1) Famed Hotel Del removes foie gras!

The Hotel Del Coronado has become the latest high profile establishment to remove cruel force fed duck liver from its restaurant, 1500 Ocean, after being contacted by APRL. Food and beverage manager Steve Shackney told APRL director Bryan Pease that the hotel wants to be a "good neighbor," supports what APRL is doing, and will no longer be serving foie gras!

Earlier this year, the San Diego City Council unanimously passed a resolution commending APRL for exposing the cruelty of foie gras, commending restaurants that have removed it, and encouraging all San Diegans to boycott this cruelty. An independent Zogby poll last year found 85% of San Diegans favor an outright ban without waiting for a statewide ban signed by Gov. Schwarzenegger that will take effect in 2012.

Please THANK the hotel for its compassionate decision by writing:

APRL is a San Diego based nonprofit organization that fights factory farming and was the San Diego County coordinator for Proposition 2, prohibiting severe confinement of farm animals, which voters approved by 63% statewide and 65% in San Diego. More on APRL’s animal cruelty investigations into the “foie gras” industry can be found at www.BanFoieGras.org and www.APRL.org/foiegras.html.

2) Another Blanca protest!

Unlike the Hotel Del and other compassionate establishments, Blanca restaurant still has not one but THREE foie gras items on its menu. APRL will hold a second protest there in the Beachwalk Shopping Center at 437 South Highway 101, Solana Beach, CA 92075, at 7:00pm on Saturday, December 13.

Our last protest was a great success, with 25 volunteers holding signs (pictures right), and virtually no customers entering the restaurant! Blanca actually assisted our efforts by having an intimidating looking man with a videocamera filming everything and everyone, most of the time standing directly in front of their front door and appearing to block the entrance!

3) APRL benefit at Nature's Express!

Come celebrate a momentous year with us and find out what comes next for the animals! This will be a great time to meet other volunteers, hear about campaign updates, and enjoy good food in an honorary "APRL Night" at Nature's Express. Twenty percent of the proceeds go straight to the Animal Protection and Rescue League! ***Please remember to say that you are with the Animal Protection and Rescue League when you

25 volunteers lined the entrance to Blanca with signs two weeks ago. This Saturday we will be back because the restaurant still serves foie gras!
