Sanctuary Update

Fall usually

signals a time to prepare for the winter ahead and putting the final details

in place for our yearly fundraiser -- the Howl-O-Ween Run for the

Wolves.  It is also a time to thank our

wonderful volunteers and spend some social time with them at the annual

volunteer picnic at the Sanctuary.

This year was much different.

Cover Story – WideAwake To Wolf With Love

For years, Wolf has done everything possible to gain

approval to move the WideAwake animals to the main facility.  Once it became apparent their health was

too bad to place them after rescue, we knew the best place for them was the

Sanctuary.  This was the catalyst for

our request for Amended Special Review with our County. Well, the Universe

works in mysterious ways.

Small Miracles -- McKinley

Running a Sanctuary is not easy.  We are busy to the point that we do not

take the time to celebrate all the good things (aka small miracles), that do

happen.  It is high time for that to

change.  As we near 14 years of saving

lives, we were humbled when we stopped to realize that we have helped, in one

way or another, to rescue over 7,500 animals in addition to those we have

provided sanctuary.

Howl-O-Ween Run Surprises

The 8th Annual Howl-O-Ween Run was quite an adventure

this year.  Due to decreasing

attendance on Sundays, we decided to move the Run to a Saturday in hopes that

was a better day for people.  To do

that, we also had to move the location, as we could not use City Park on

Saturdays.  So we rented the Colorado

State University Oval, six months in advance, which is a perfect spot for a

run.  Planning the event was going very

well considering the changes.  Wolf is

very fortunate to live in a community that is very supportive of their local

non-profits, and our volunteers are p-awesome.  This year was going to be great!

At 11 am on Thursday, less than 48 hours before the

event, we received a call from CSU informing us we were not going to be able

to use the Oval.

Payroll Deductions – Community Shares of Colorado

Studies show that

giving through Payroll Contribution is three times more effective than simply

writing a check.

Payroll

deductions or automatic monthly donations are what is known as incremental

giving.  The power of incremental

giving cannot be underestimated.  Small

donations, even $1 from each paycheck, add up to a lot of help for Wolf.  Here are a few examples of what incremental

giving can do:

Kasota, Boots & Lena Come Home

Due to

recent passings at the Sanctuary, we had room for 3 more animals.  Boots and Lena were chosen as the next

animals to join the main pack from WideAwake.

On September 4th, they were released into their new ½ acre private

habitat, far from potential stressors.

In Memory of

Lucan

As

Lucan became more comfortable with his dedicated caretakers, he became even

more social.  He treasured all the

attention he received from the volunteers.

Watching Lucan get so much attention from the humans slowly convinced

Kasota, and then Pride (in the enclosure next to theirs), to approach for

attention too.

In Memory of Rami

Rami came to Wolf in 1995 as a 2.5 week old fluff ball

puppy with eight siblings and their mom.

Originally nicknamed Black Stripe, she enjoyed free range of the

house.  After her mom and four siblings

went to a new home, Rami and three of her siblings became permanent members

of the House Pack.  She was possibly

the sweetest animal you could ever meet.

Rami loved attention, and would roll onto her back for anyone and

everyone to rub her belly.
