This is the day that has been chosen to recognize the horses that slave in this inhumane industry and to stand in solidarity with activists around the world in asking for it to stop. Cities that will participate are NYC, Rome, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Charleston, Annapolis, Dublin, Florence, Tel Aviv and Victoria, Canada. In NYC, this is being sponsored by the Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages and Friends of Animals. * When: Saturday, December 6, 2008 * Time: 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM * Where: Grand Army Plaza - 5th Ave. and 60th Street Horse-drawn carriages constitute a danger to people in vehicles, on bicycles, and on foot, as well as the horses themselves. At least six people have been hospitalized and three horses have died from horse carriage incidents in New York since 2006. This means of transportation may have been effective in the 1800s,but it certainly does not belong on the congested streets of 21st Century Manhattan. The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages seeks legislation to ban this dangerous and inhumane industry from New York City.
