Thank you for speaking out! Since our investigation into Petland broke on Nov. 20, tens of thousands of advocates contacted Petland and urged the chain to stop selling puppies. But we're not done telling Petland to stop supporting puppy mill cruelty -- we need your help! With the holiday shopping season upon us, please help us spread the word and tell your family and friends to take action and tell Petland to stop supporting puppy mills. You can also speak out against puppy mill cruelty by wearing one of our Stop Puppy Mills T-shirts or spreading the word with a bumper sticker, poster, or tote bag. Visit our Pets Against Puppy Mills photo page to see how pets are speaking out against puppy mills. Be sure to upload your pets’ photos to the page today and have their voices heard, too. This is a consumer issue, and many people who purchased dogs from Petland have already contacted us. If you haven’t already, please tell us your story if you bought a puppy from Petland. We’ll continue to keep the pressure on Petland until the company does the right thing for animals. With your continued help, we're confident we will succeed. Sincerely,Wayne PacellePresident & CEOThe Humane Society of the United StatesP.S. Did you know that Petland claims it has “adopted” more than 250,000 animals through its “Adopt A Pet” program? We called every Petland store in the U.S. and asked about their “adoption” program and found that more than 40 percent of the stores do not participate in the “program” at all. Other stores shared information that many of their “adoptions” are actually puppies who are returned to the store or marked down at lower prices. The HSUS knows a thing or two about pet adoption, and selling puppies at discount prices just doesn’t qualify. Read my blog for more information about Petland’s “adoption” profiteering.
