Guest guest Posted November 18, 2008 Report Share Posted November 18, 2008 http://www.oleantimesherald.com/articles/2008/11/17/news/doc4921f0b60c712044909320..txt Monday, November 17, 2008 7:09 PM EST Franklinville man, 23, dies in hunting accident HUMPHREY - A Franklinville man was fatally shot in a hunting accident at about 9 a.m. Sunday off of Bloy Road.Derrick Lockwood, 23, was hunting with his brother, Dan Lockwood, who allegedly shot Derrick accidentally, said Timothy Whitcomb, undersheriff with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff¢s Department. The fatal shot struck Derrick Lockwood in the stomach, Mr. Whitcomb said.A Cattaraugus County deputy sheriff tried to resuscitate Mr. Lockwood with an automated external defibrillator, but was unsuccessful, Mr. Whitcomb said.Mr. Lockwood was taken to Olean General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Cattaraugus County Coroner Bradley Spink. An autopsy was scheduled for this morning at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.The investigation is being handled by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation which was not able to provide any more detail about the accident by press time.Mr. Whitcomb said the shooting has been ruled an accident and that he was not aware of any charges at this point.
