Davis, Staff writer A Hart County man lost part of his right arm in a hunting accident, according to Investigator Marshall Norton of the Hart County Sheriff's Office. Eddie McCurley, 54, of 578 Homestead Road, received injuries not considered life threatening when his gun discharged into his forearm Nov. 9. McCurley told Norton a rung on the ladder broke as he was climbing out of a deer stand on his property around 6 p.m. "The gun was in his left hand and he probably

either dropped it and it discharged or he gave the gun a reactionary squeeze," Norton said. "He's actually not real sure what happened." McCurley was transported to AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, S.C., where his part of his right arm was amputated below the elbow. "It was an unfortunate accident, but it's also fortunate that he's alive," Josh Chambers, Ranger First Class with the Department of Natural Resources said. "It's a very sad thing," Norton said. "And it's something that could have been avoided." After expressing sympathy for McCurley, both Chambers and Norton stressed the importance of taking precautions to prevent hunting accidents. "Almost all (hunting) accidents can be avoided," Chambers said. The two cautioned hunters to inspect tree stands before
