This message was sent by NTARN member Nancy Underwood. Mr. Benjamin¢s generosity is heartwarming, but a broader effort is necessary to keep this no-kill shelter running. Please help if you can.

Cross-posting encouraged.

Last night's news and this mornings papers ran a story on how, because they are "facing financial woes, Dallas County's Humane Society Shelter" is being forced to turn away animals: http://www.dallasne ws.com/sharedcon tent/dws/ dn/latestnews/ stories/110608dn metpeteconomics. 368a429.html.

Dallas County's Humane Society Shelter, aka Dog 'n Kitty City, is one of only two NO KILL shelters in our entire metroplex (Operation Kindness is the other).

Philanthropist Arthur Benjamin has stepped-up to help out in the short term (see attached press release), but we, as Dallas citizens, must step-up for the duration.

Each of us is busy and stretched-thin, and we are lucky that Dallas has an amazing resource in no kill shelter Dog and Kitty City. When you and I cannot take these animals into our homes, Dallas Humane Society's Dog and Kitty City does the job.

Please help D & KC re-open their doors immediately. In this economy, many of the poorest (and even the less poor) families in Dallas cannot afford to care for their pets + there are always people who are just tired of being pet parents and need a safe, no-kill option to re-home these dogs and cats.

To donate: (214) 350-7387 or http://www.dognkitt ycity.org/ donations. html To volunteer: www.dognkittycity.org

Please feel free to forward this information to any and everyone who will care about the future of our city, our poorest citizens, and our most helpess four-legged creatures.

Nancy
