Legal Roundup Pet food recall: Mars Petcare US, manufacturers of SPECIAL KITTY® Gourmet Blend dry cat food, has announced a voluntary recall of a limited number of bags sold at Wal-Mart locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, and West Virginia. The pet food is being voluntarily recalled following a positive test result indicating a potential contamination with Salmonella. In Bremen, Germany, a neuroscientist who conducts research on cognition in mammalian brains was told that his license to conduct experiments on 24 macaques would not be renewed. This action was taken in response to a protest by animal rights activists to the regional parliament earlier in the year. The local licensing department decided to refuse the license to work with primates, even though a national regulatory body had already approved it. The researcher, Andreas Kreiter, stated that he will appeal this decision. University officials pledged their support for Kreiter and will take this to Germany's Federal Constitutional Court if necessary.
