Guest guest
****Cross Post Freely****Peter Young to speak at NYU Wednesday, Oct 29th @ 7:00 pm Peter Young: Imprisoned for Activism Wednesday, October 29, 2008 | 07:00 pm - 08:30 pmNYU Vanderbilt Hall Room 216 (Note from WAR: Don't forget to bring Picture ID!) Animal rights activist Peter Young is the first person convicted of Animal Enterprise Terrorism. His charges relate to fur farm raids in Iowa, South Dakota, and Wisconsin in 1997. He was in hiding for seven years before being arrested in San Jose and serving two years in prison. Peter was convicted under the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. Enacted despite an impassioned outcry from free speech proponents and the activist community, the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act singles out animal rights activists for special sanctions and brands them "terrorists." Since being released from prison last year, Peter Young has sought to raise awareness of the Green Scare – legal action by the United States government against radical environmentalist and animal rights activism under the banner of anti-terrorism measures. Come hear former political prisoner Peter Young speak about his experience resisting injustice. The talk is free and open to the public. Vegan refreshments will be served.
