S. Forest Service Ash Creek station to Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta for treatment of a gunshot wound to his right calf.Williams told deputies that he and three friends were walking on Harris Springs Road east of Pilgrim Creek Road after a deer hunt.As he adjusted his his rifle sling, he said, a handgun he was carrying in a leather holster went off and he was wounded in his calf.His friends applied medical aid and drove him to the U. S. Forest Service Ash Creek station where an ambulance was called for him.A sheriff¢s deputy who inspected the holster said that it had been blown out, confirming that the gun had gone off from inside the holster.Williams underwent surgery Thursday and was recovering at the hospital today, the spokeswoman said.
