Rodeo loses a championPENDLETON - The world of rodeo lost one of it's best competitors this year at the Pendleton Round-Up when bucking horse Anchor Bay succumbed to injuries sustained at Wednesday's performance.According to Cindy Schonholtz, animal welfare coordinator for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Round-Up veterinarian Dr. Doug Corey treated Anchor Bay with pain medication and observed her while preparing to possibly transport her to Washington State College of Veterinary Medicine in Pullman, but she did not survive to make the trip.T.J. Korkow, owner of the mare, indicated he had been willing to take all measures possible to save the horse. "We raised the mare on the ranch in our bucking horse breeding program and we were going to retire her after

this rodeo season to raise colts," he said.Korkow had a lot to lose. Anchor Bay was a decorated bareback horse, selected for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo nine times, taking many cowboys to the winner's circle including champion Will Lowe. She bucked at her first NFR at the age of four and among her other achievements she was named the 2004 Badlands Circuit Finals Bareback Horse of the Year
