RESIST CHANGES TO THE BULGARIAN HUNTING LAW

 

A new draft Hunting and Game Protection Act for Bulgaria has been

produced by the responsible parliamentary committee in Sofia. As

presently drafted, the act will extend the hunting season for wildfowl

form the end of January to the end of February annually.

 

Almost every year there has been an extension to the season as a result

of lobbying by hunters, in 2007 and 2008 by some two weeks. As

individual hunters persistently exceed the permitted bag by a large

margin, and also shoot protected species such as Red-breasted Goose,

Bulgarian conservationists are calling for an urgent revision of the

draft law before it is presented to parliament.
