Guest guest
" Rettet den Regenwald e.V. " Email alert against the destruction of the Cerrado forests in PiauÃ, Brazil Dear friends, Over 50 environmental and citizens’ groups have raised alarm about serious environmental destruction in the state of Piauà in north-eastern Brazil. Highly biodiverse tropical forests, home to jaguars, pumas, mane wolves, rare primates, aardvarks and tapirs are being destroyed, largely for soya, castor oil and eucalypt monocultures for agro-energy. The state government is planning five hydro dams which will destroy the natural course and ecosystem of the ParnaÃba river, putting over 2.5 million people at risk of losing their drinking water sources. Thousands of people, including small farmers, river dwellers and indigenous people, are at risk of losing their livelihoods and homes. Please send a letter to the Governor of Piauà today to support calls by Brazilian groups for the immediate protection of tropical forests, for an end to destructive development plans and for the promotion of sustainable solar and wind energy. Please go to http://www.regenwald.org/international/englisch/ to take part in the email alert. Many thanks. Best regards, Reinhard Behrend Rettet den Regenwald e. V.
