Guest guest
GB-Analysts Reports: New and Update Articles Situation Analysis: Water Washing Bio-diesel Reaction Products A critical step in the production of Bio-diesel, particularly when the feed vegetable oil contains free fatty acids, is the removal of the soap that is formed as part of the tranesterification reaction and is dissolved in the bio-diesel. Soap is the salt of fatty acids; and during the bio-diesel esterification reaction, the free fatty acids in the oils react with the Sodium (or Potassium) ions of the methoxide or ethoxide to form the soap. Two approaches have been advanced for performing this chemical process Separation task: Extraction of the soap with water, and Extraction of the soap with resin. The former extraction task is often described, in local bio-diesel production operations, as washing the bio-diesel [fuel]. However, the two approaches are based on the same chemical science.
