BlueVoice Mercury Tests Stun Taiji Dolphin Eaters

July 8, 2008

Over the past few months BlueVoice has conducted hair sample tests on dolphin eaters in Taiji, Japan. The results showed massive mercury contamination in those who eat dolphin meat.

Dolphin eaters shown these results have stopped eating dolphin and the word is finally out that dolphin meat is a major threat to the health of the people of Taiji.

The results of the mercury tests on dolphin eaters was picked up by a major Japanese news magazine. The publication has stunned the people of Taiji and indeed all of Japan and indicates a huge scandal in the food safety area. People are now learning the hazard of eating dolphin meat and we expect demand for it to plummet - a major step in ending the dolphin killing.

The information on contamination in dolphins will end the killing. Please give us the tools to conduct and publicize more information on toxic levels in dolphin meat.

WE ASK YOUR HELP IN CONDUCTING FURTHER TESTS. WE CAN END THE KILLING.

BIG BREAKTHROUGH FOR BLUEVOICE TESTSThe International Whaling Commission - Santiago, Chile

We brought our 50 page report entitled "A Shared Fate" to the IWC for distribution to the world's press and decision makers gathered here from 81 nations. We delivered hundreds of reports, DVDs and shorter bulletins, many translated into Japanese, to the conference. These reports went to major news outlets such as Reuters, the BBC and Latin American news agencies. They were also given to delegates from the 81 nations attending the IWC.

This information is highly important at the IWC as it proves whales and dolphins should not be eaten because their meat is highly contaminated. If empathy for these marvelous animals is not enough to stop their slaughter then certain knowledge that their meat carries highly toxic levels of heavy metals such as mercury and PCBs may be persuasive.

View the 15 minute Shared Fate pilot.

Our "A Shared Fate" report will ultimately be released as a television film, will be available on the internet (open to contributors in the Wiki format) and will be published as a book. We are uploading the report to BlueVoice.org.

Extraordinary Peruvians Rehabilitate Sea Lions

A BlueVoice team working in Lima, Peru has found an extraordinary rescue group called ORCA rehabilitating orphaned sea lions, dolphins and tracking down illicit humpback whale hunting. You must see the short film of their work with sea lions! (Link below)

Unfortunately we also learned that Phocine Distemper Virus (PDV) has been found among the sea lion populations along the Peruvian coast. PDV wiped out some 17,000 seals in the North Sea a few years ago and is considered a result of immuno-suppression from marine contamination.

ORCA - like so many small marine mammal rescue groups, lacks the funds to test contamination levels in stranded marine mammals. Raising such funds is a major focus of our work today. Your contributions to this cause is vital to learn what is causing heretofore unknown diseases in marine mammals. Watch this heartwarming video!
