Guest guest Posted June 17, 2008 Report Share Posted June 17, 2008 Bridgeport to pay $9,000 in circus case Associated Press June 16, 2008 BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The city of Bridgeport has agreed to a $9,000 settlement with an animal-rights group that filed a lawsuit after demonstrators were arrested outside a circus in 2006.Friends of Animals claimed the arrests violated the protesters' constitutional right to free speech. The group says the animal-rights supporters had obtained a permit from the city to picket the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus at the Arena at Harbor Yard.The lawsuit says the protesters were arrested for not obeying city police orders to move from an area in front of the arena to another site.City officials claimed the demonstrators were arrested on the arena owners' property.
