3 Day eventing is a grueling and cruel "sport" and should be abolished. Along with all the other exploitations, of course.Top American equestrians and novice riders met in Lexington onSaturday to find a way to rescue the sport of three-day eventing fromitself."We're here today because eventing is in trouble. Some would say thesurvival of the sport as we know it is really at stake," said JohnLong, CEO of the U.S. Equestrian Federation, the governing body ofnon-racing horse sports.He said "the high number of accidents and fatalities for both horsesand riders" had prompted "increased, intense scrutiny" from the media,from animal rights groups and from parents.At least a dozen riders internationally have been killed in the pastyear and a half, and several horses have died or been euthanized laterbecause of injuries suffered on cross-country courses.
