Guest guest
Not only liars, but stupid. They need clarification on what "raised without antibiotics" means? Pathetic. http://www.meatpoultry.com/news/daily_enews.asp?ArticleID=93998WASHINGTON -- One day after Tyson Foods Inc. issued a press release stating it was "voluntarily" rescinding its "Raised without antibiotics that impact human antibiotic resistance" claims on labels of poultry products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a release of its own, stating the company’s action was anything but voluntary. Undersecretary for Food Safety, Dr. Richard Raymond said in a statement issued by the Food Safety and Inspection Service that the company was ordered to rescind the label claim after "F.S.I.S. found that they routinely used the antibiotic Gentamicin to prevent illness and death in chicks."Mr. Raymond says the discovery resulted in the agency notifying Tyson on June 2 that the previously approved and qualified claim would have to be withdrawn. "Because of this information, F.S.I.S. notified Tyson Foods Inc. that the company must stop using the qualified raised without antibiotics labels, or any variation of a ‘Raised without antibiotics’ claim by June 18," said Mr. Raymond. In the earlier announcement from Tyson, Dave Hogberg, senior vice-president of consumer products, stated that the company was not only making the voluntary decision, but also asking the U.S.D.A. to adopt a public process to clarify such claims. "In order to preserve the integrity of our label and our reputation as a premier company in the food industry, we believe there needs to be more specific labeling and advertising protocols developed to ensure the rules are clear and application of the rules is equitable," he said.F.S.I.S. claims it informed Tyson Foods on May 23 that U.S.D.A. planned to "initiate a public process to review policies on ‘Raised without antibiotics’ claims for poultry.""To ensure that this process is equitable, F.S.I.S. will review any claim relating to the use of antibiotics in poultry that it has already approved for companies other than Tyson Foods Inc.," Mr., Raymond said.According to Tyson, new labeling and packaging material has been ordered and will likely begin showing up in retail meat cases within six weeks. Meanwhile, "some products with the original and qualified labels will continue to be in the marketplace for several months since they are in frozen inventory and have not yet been placed in a retail meat case," says the company. http://pets.Fortheanimals7/join http://www.myspace.com/fortheanimals7
