Tribal Judge Stanley Myers on Wednesday instead granted the menone-year deferred prosecution and promised to dismiss the charges ifthey committed no offenses during that time. The whalers also wereeach ordered to pay a $20 fine. The deferral came after the judge summoned more than 200 people fromthe remote village of Neah Bay on the Olympic Peninsula to serve aspotential jurors. But the judge gave up on empaneling a jury becausejust about everyone was either related or said they had strongfeelings about the case, according to one of the whalers, WayneJohnson....Animal-rights activists were dismayed at the tribal judge's ruling Wednesday. "There should have been a better show of discipline here," said NaomiRose, lead scientist with the Humane Society of the United States inWashington, D.C. -- full story:http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004415609_makah16m.html The concept of 'animal rights' values the simple premise that ALL living creatures have a "right" to be allowed to live their lives without victimization--free from brutality. It is a right that EVERY being strives for.~Brennan Browne~"Humanely" slaughtered 'meat', is an obscene lie invented and perpetuated by people who are too lazy, selfish and cruel to change their dietary habits. Forcibly denying a creature its right to life, love and companionship can NEVER be humane.~Brennan Browne~
