IRVING — Irving police may launch an animal cruelty investigation after someone delivered an apparent political message to the mayor. That message was in the form of an injured Chihuahua that was left in a box on Mayor Herbert Gears' doorstep on Saturday. A note said the mayor wasn't doing his job on animal control issues. "It was an odd box," Mayor Gears said. "It was pieced together with two or three different cardboard boxes ripped apart and taped together in an odd shape, and it was very unsual with with knife slashes going down; it looked like the Nightmare on Elm Street." The mayor took the dog to the vet. It is now recovering from puncture wounds that Gears said were bite marks. http://pets.Fortheanimals7/join http://www.myspace.com/fortheanimals7
