Help Feed The Horses! Help us feed the horses! NER goes through 9 - 15 tons ($1,500-$2,500) of hay each month and the more horses we rescue the more hay we need. We can get 3 twined hay, grass or alfalfa depending on the needs of the horses, it's down to $10.00 a bale now! We are hoping that you will help out by buying a bale or 2 or becoming a "Hay Sponsor" even if it's a bale a month. All you have to do is donate and we'll do all the hard work of getting the hay, bringing it to the ranch and unloading it. You really do have the easy part of this. Every bale is definitely needed and will be enjoyed by a rescued horse. The hay is much cheaper then it is at the feed stores and the more money that is saved from the high prices of hay will help save more horses that are out there just waiting for someone to save them and give them the love they so badly need. Last spring we were able to get hay for $8.00 then in the summer $9.00 then $10 then $12.00 then 13.50 a bale, but we can get it for $10.00 a bale now! We buy our hay directly from the hay growers to save money. Let's pray that the price of hay does not keep going up. News Our last auction rescue was a huge success! We were able to save 12 equines with the $4,485 that we were able to raise, thanks to supporters like yourself. 9 of the equines came from Roseville Livestock Auction and 3 horses came from the Fallon Livestock Exchange in Nevada. To see pictures of the 12 In our last board meeting we have developed a more focused mission for rescuing the most horses we can. Included in our plan was a discussion on euthanasia. We see so many horses that we would love to save, but we know we are unable to bring them into our program as they are unadoptable. Those horses do not deserve to be shipped off to be slaughtered, so we are hoping to be able to provide them a gentle ending to their magnificent life. It is very hard to see these beautiful horses be put to sleep, but it is better than walking away while they are being loaded into the slaughter truck for the long trip to Canada or Mexico. When funds allow we will be able to take unadoptable horses into our program, give them love and kindness, try to find them a home and if none can be found, then let them pass on peacefully. Sadly, the fact is, there are too many people breeding horses with no thought of where those horses will end up in a few years, and then we have to make the hard decision for the right. This program is called Last Act of Kindness Fund, to find out more about LAK Remember that we have a daily blog on our website if you have not seen it yet click here for the blog archives. Truffles gave birth to Bello (Italian for "Beautiful") last month. Halfway through the labor, Truffles decided she had enough. She is only 3 years old, and was confused and bewildered by the weird happenings, so she decided to get up and walk away from her troubles. But she was walking away with a baby that was half out! So Tawnee had to walk around holding a half born baby until Truffles decided to lay back down and get the job over with. Bello is the first baby ever born at our ranch, what a special girl. Watch her birth on YouTube - click here! So far this year we have saved 102 equines! Help us save more horses from abuse, slaughter and starvation. NorCal Equine Rescue - P.O.
