Now his father could be facing charges of negligent hunting. The two men are from the Amish community near Sugarcreek. Pete Novotny of

the Ohio Division of Wildlife is in charge of the investigation of an accidental shooting that took place at around 12:00 p.m. Saturday. It happened about a mile out Cassville Road on private property that had been opened up after strip mining. Novotny said Romen Yoder was hunting with his 22-year-old son Reuben, when the father fired his 12-gauge shotgun, not knowing he was aiming at his son. “They were ready to get up and quit hunting for the day. The father saw movement in the bushes. The son had left the spot where they originally were, and ended up accidentally shooting the son,” Novotny said. The father reportedly ran from the scene and called 911. Yoder was first taken by medical helicopter to OVMC and from there to an undetermined Pittsburgh hospital. Novotny, who works for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, said accidents like this are rare during Turkey season. Information on the shooting will be turned over

to the Harrison County Prosecutor on Monday. A Negligent hunting conviction can result in a fine and a jail term, plus revocation of a hunting license. Copyright 2008 West Virginia Media.
