Guest guest
Please call and forward to the world!!! April 23, 2008 National Conference of State Legislators to Consider Resolution Opposing Federal Ban on Horse Slaughter Dear Humanitarian: The Animal Welfare Institute has learned that the National Conference of State Legislators, due to meet in Washington, D.C. later this week, will consider a resolution in its Agriculture Committee urging the United States Congress to block passage of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (AHSPA - H.R. 503/S. 311). The AHSPA is an important animal protective measure that will prohibit the slaughter of our horses here or abroad for human consumption around the globe. The resolution, which has clearly been shaped by the pro-horse slaughter lobby, is chock full of misinformation and scare tactics designed to unnerve legislators at the federal and state levels from taking action to prevent Americas horses from going to slaughter. Its passage if it does pass - will be used to press our legislators into allowing the continued slaughter of our horses at the hands of a cruel, predatory and entirely foreign-owned industry. The resolution or policy statement refers to the Horse Welfare Coalition which was founded and is currently run by the slaughterhouses and consists of only pro-horse slaughter organizations such at the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners and American Quarter Horse Association. Be sure to let these legislators know that well over 500 horse industry groups and leaders, equine rescues, veterinary organizations support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act along with the majority of Americans.http://www.awionline.org/legislation/horse_slaughter/supporters_of_ahspa.htm If you are a constituentof one of the following state legislators listed below, please email them TODAYand ask them to oppose any resolution at this weeks National Conference of State Legislators that would hamper efforts to protect Americas horses from the brutalities of slaughter.
