Dear Friends of the Orangutan, The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation UK would like your help on behalf of our endangered, red-haired cousins. One of our supporters recently had the idea of sending our YouTube video to her MP and received a prompt response, proof that a simple email can have a significant impact, especially when accompanied by effective imagery. Here is the MPs response to this concerned supporter: Dear Ms McEntee, Thank you for your email. The video is indeed shocking and I agree with you about the importance of conserving the remaining forests in Indonesia and the fears expressed in the film that an unintended consequence of the rush to biofuels has been the destruction of forests to make way for palm oil. Yours sincerely, David Liddington So please do take a moment to copy and paste the short

message below and send it to any of the following: MP for your constituency your MEP Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Hilary Benn MP or direct to 10 Downing Street. You can also send the link to family and friends so they can do the same. The more people who do this, the greater the opportunity to make the government sit up and listen and help us help the orangutan. So please, as primates helping primates, together we can make a difference, give the orangutans a voice and ensure they have a future with us in this world. Message to send to your MP, etc: Subject:The demise of a species? Dear [MP's name], I hope you can take a few moments of your day to view the

Hi Michelle,

I wonder whether you have told the people that you have been sending this

video that the shooting of the orangutan is actually not real and done by

staff of BOSF to show how this is done and not actual real footage? I think

it is a great video (as far as I remember made by Alain Compost about 5-6

years ago) and it sends a clear message, but shouldn't people know that the

shooting of the orangutan is not actual real footage? I see lots of very

upset people's reactions on the web about it and feel people should be told

that these hunters are actors and the blood is paint. It won't make it less

hard but gives more credibility on the longer term i.m.h.o.

Second point is that sending these clips to British MP's won't really help

much in my opinion. Why not bombard the real targets; the Indonesian MP's,

cabinet-members and the Indonesian people? Sure palm oil is a very big

threat to the forests of Borneo and the orangutan, but the illegal trade in

orangutans for entertainment in Asia is still continuing at the same time.

It is all in the hands of the Indonesian government and people. I think it

is there is where you have to make the change.
