In a matter of weeks, the European Commission will make an announcement about the trade in seal products in Europe. As you may know, there is already a ban, which forbids the trade in products from whitecoat harp and blueback hooded seals. However, seal pups as young as 13 days old are currently killed in Canada’s commercial seal hunt to provide products for Europe and the rest of the world. Please take action today and ask the EU Commissioner for the Environment, Stavros Dimas to insist on a ban on trade in all seal products in Europe. This is a rare chance to make a real difference and to help stop animal cruelty. Closing down markets for seal products will help bring the Canadian commercial seal hunt to an end. Nothing less than a full ban on all seal products will do. IFAW has conducted opinion polls in many European countries. This polling shows that Europeans are opposed to the commercial seal hunt in Canada and that the majority support a ban on the trade in seal products.* We are asking you to let Europeans know that Canadians too oppose the cruel and unsustainable seal hunt. Thank you for your continued support. Yours sincerely,Olivier BonnetDirector IFAW Canada *Of those expressing an opinion. Polling was conducted in UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Slovenia and Finland. Worried about Donating online?I used to be too ... so I made sure our online system is safe, secure, and state-of-the-art. It also eliminates check-processing costs, so more money goes directly to saving animals. But if you prefer to donate by phone or mail, simply for address information. If you have an AOL, Hotmail, MSN or email address, this is particularly important as we receive many “bounce backs” from these email addresses.
