After the centre was exposed by an undercover investigation during the summer of 2003, and a constant campaign to close it down, the 88 monkeys kept inside this lab were taken to Monkey World by a Chilean Air Force plane. http://www.oipa.org/vivisection/news/chilean.html NO MORE DOG SACRIFICES IN MED SCHOOLS IN USA The new year began with a piece of good news. Case Western Reserve School of Medicine will end cardiology lessons wherein students examine the beating heart of a live dog, which results in the animal’s death. This brings an end to the long-standing tradition of using live dogs in all American medical schools. http://www.oipa.org/vivisection/news/nodog.html EFSA LAUNCHES ITS DRAFT OPINION ON ANIMAL CLONING FOR PUBLIC CONSULTATION EFSA is launching a public consultation on its draft scientific opinion on the implications of animal cloning on food safety, animal health and welfare and the environment. The work follows a request from the European Commission (EC) to EFSA for advice on this issue in February 2007. EFSA’s opinion will help inform consideration of any future EU measures in relation to animal clones and products obtained from these animals.
