Guest guest
Israel:Twenty centuries-old oak trees were cut down over the weekend inthe Izrael valley in the Galilee. The tree stumps were discovered byJewish National Fund forest rangers Sunday. "The trees were ancientand beautiful," the JNF said. Officials believe that the trees werechopped down for fire wood. A complaint was filed with the police. There have been many trees cut down this winter, including many rareand special trees, especially around the Miron Mountain forestpreserve. Last week, ironically on Tu Bishvat, one of the biggest oaktrees in the Mount Miron area was chopped down. The JNF has tried tocounter the deforestation by passing out firewood to the poor whocan't afford heating due to rising energy costs.http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/948527.html
