Guest guest
Hi Martha, A number of things come to mind. I don't think that there is too much special (not that way anyhow with me or my soil. The Wikipedia article I linked to before does mention " oxalates " on the surface of the leaves and recommends blanching to remove them before eating the leaves. I have eaten so much of the stuff by this time, that I don't particularly mind and can eat some of the raw leaves now. But I certainly did notice the taste the first time I tried 'em. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_spinach http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxalate Slim , Martha <mnatural22 wrote: > > >It has a good flavor when cooked and a noticeable metallic taste when raw that no one tells you about. > > Slim, my dad used to grow New Zealand spinach. The only way we ate it was raw. I don't recall it having a metallic taste at all. Could it be something in your soil that makes it taste that way to you? Or maybe you're a " taster. " I know that I am not. > > Martha >
