Guest guest
In addition to the exploitation, it is common for members of the hive to be killed - so they don't have to be maintained over the winter and the farmer can take more honey. Here is an interesting link if anyone would like to read more: http://www.vegetus.org/honey/honey.htm As a vegan, animal rights activist and feminist, I often find it interesting how many products we consume that involve the enslavement and rape of females of species. This link talks about this in reards to bees, which I had not read before. Interesting. Over the years of being vegan I have at times been lax about honey consumption, but I am renewed now in my resolve! The pollen is collected by the bees for the bees' use, then humans come along and take it for their purposes, leaving the bees to start over again. We can get along just fine without it. > > > > , Sue Williams <esoteria52@> wrote: > > > > Thanks for the info - I knew they had some sugar, though, as you said, some more than others. As a new vegan years ago, I was geared to looking for meat and dairy products, and didn't realize bee pollen was a vegan no no. I don't look at the ingredients much these days, as I have consumed it for so long now, so didn't remember it being there. Even when I was reading the label to post yesterday, I missed it somehow. Truth be known, even if I had seen it, I doubt it would have hindered me from using it, as I guess I'm not totally convinced that it is an issue for my version of vegan diet. I don't see it coming FROM the animal, as milk from a cow, etc. I am aware that many consider it to be non-vegan, but I guess I just don't totally understand why. Anyone game to explain it to me? Thanks, Sue > >
