Guest guest
Hi I just read this - interested in people's thoughts! http://veggiedietitian.blogspot.com/2010/03/fat-in-vegan-diets-how- low-should-you.html Virginia is decidedly mainstream sometimes, although she's done some good work in the past. I believe she's a bit " clinical " and " reductionist " for my tastes and hasn't really taken the time to thoroughly understand Esselstyn and Barnard's research. I posted a comment (she moderates) about the fact that Ornish and Esselstyn have independently reversed heart disease through the same method, as well as suggesting that she needs to read Essy's book. I also noted that added oil is not a real food and is nutritionally insignificant. I mentioned that it's the added fat that fuels plaque development. She cited studies that indicated nuts were helpful to those with heart disease, I should have (in retrospect) countered that they did nothing to REVERSE heart disease, which is much more important than slowing it down. As an addendum, I posted the following in a comment, noting that it's all referenced and cited: http://soulveggie.blogs.com/my_weblog/2009/01/15-reasons-to-avoid-vegetable-oils.html Will be interesting to see if she let's those comments through, and what she says. There really is no reason for added oil. You can get your Omega 3 from less " artificial " sources. That she's a " registered dietician " is no lock on any complete credibility.
