Guest guest
Hi all, I have two chayote in the refrig that I need to use up today. Does anyone have a good recipe? I did a search at fat free vegan but nothing came up, maybe they have a different name in other areas that I am not aware of. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Sarah,They do have lots of different names. In Louisiana we call them " mirlitons " and I have a few recipes on my blog that use them (my favorite is probably the stew): Mirliton and White Bean Stew Southwestern Chayote Casserole Grilled ChayotesSeaside-Stuffed Mirlitons Creamy Mexican Chayote Soup (Biggest problem with the redesign of the website is that the search doesn't include blog items anymore, so you have to go to the blog to search there.)Susan------------------------- Susan VoisinFatFree Vegan Kitchenhttp://blog.fatfreevegan.comhttp://www.facebook.com/FatFreeVegan-------------------------- On Sat, Feb 27, 2010 at 12:47 PM, Sarah Navarro <navarrosarah wrote: Hi all, I have two chayote in the refrig that I need to use up today. Guest guest
These look great, thanks so much. I don't have any powdered sea weed around here and I won't get anywhere to get some for quite awhile but I am definitely going to try the stew recipe when I get some. Meanwhile I have everything for the casserole so I may just try that one. I really appreciate the help. Thanks for all the new ideas. Guest guest
Susan, I was looking at the Mirliton and White Bean Stew recipe. What is liquid crab boil? I've never heard of it. Guest guest
Dena, these days I would probably skip the crab boil and a teaspoon or two of Tabasco. Crab boil looks like liquid chemicals to me.Susan------------------------- Susan VoisinFatFree Vegan Kitchenhttp://blog.fatfreevegan.comhttp://www.facebook.com/FatFreeVegan--------------------------
Guest guest
We used to stuff ours with crab meat, sauteed onions, sweet(bell pepper),and Progresso Italian Bread Crumbs. I love your recipe on the blog, will definitly make that. Dorothy in N. FL. - Susan Voisin Hi Sarah,They do have lots of different names.
