Maureen, I follow Esselstyn as closely as possible. You've read his book, right? It has a few desserts in it. So I don't think he avoids sweets entirely. I assume you must mean refined sugars. I try to avoid them, simply because they seem too sweet to me now. And they add no nutrition. I'd much rather have natural sugars from fruit. If you haven't tried the Banana bread recipe in that book, I'd give it a try. It should satisfy your "need for a treat" around the holidays. is anybody else following esselstyn's no fat lifestyle besides myself, mark and slim? if so, i have some questions for you about sweets. i have been avoiding sweets except for some no fat teriyaki sauce i starting eating a few days ago. i am the only one in my home that eats a fat free vegan diet. making it thru the holidays should not be a problem, but food will just be my everyday food and no holiday food for me. wondering how others like me make it thru the holidays on a strictly fat free vegan diet. do you eat anything different or just the same foods?
