Guest guest
sadly - no one can even pronounce "quinoa" outside of selected circles.save the white elephant gift for next year and hope it can be regifted to the one who brought it this year.....now you can relax and enjoy the holiday.Patricia SquyresMarion Nestle's cardinal rules for eating better:Never buy anything with a health claim.Never buy anything with a cartoon on its faceNever buy anything with more than 5 ingredients.--- On Tue, 12/15/09, Debbie <debbie wrote:Debbie <debbie followup on request for suggestions for potluck Date: Tuesday, December 15, 2009, 6:23 PM Well, the potluck was held tonight. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. I tested Mary's quinoa dish, Patricia's orange pilaf, and Spence's black beans with oranges. They were all wonderful and I will definitely make them again. I ended up taking the quinoa dish to the potluck and, while I loved it (and there's a lot left (not because people didn't eat it but because the recipe makes a LOT), it's reception was lukewarm. And of course we had the "what's this?quinoawhat?quinoaoh, that's supposed to be healthy, right?" conversation (I should have seen that one coming). And it was literally the only thing I could (or wanted to) eat -- the person who signed up to bring "salad" brought a broccoli-mayonnaise -bacon thing instead of the lovely green salad I was envisioning. So, all of your suggested dishes were great, the potluck not so much. But the white elephant gift exchange was fun! Even though I ended up with something I don't even want to take home. Thanks again, everyone, I appreciate your help. Debbie (I hope those links work.)
